It’s complicated

They didn’t find her body, but they cleaned up her statue. That place, where Catra and Adora could say their goodbyes to her, became a space for reflection and mourning. I’ve always wondered what thoughts crossed their minds in those moments, their internal conflicts. Did they truly forgive her? Do they miss her, despite everything? Do they understand why she sacrificed herself? Does she deserve redemption after all she did?

Shadow Weaver was a complex figure. Proud until the end, though I can’t help but wonder if her words were sincere or if the wine she drank before influenced her behavior...😑 (We all saw her pour that glass just before her final act)

For so long, she was cruel, manipulative, and abusive. Yet, at the same time, she was the only mother figure Catra and Adora ever knew. How do you reconcile that? Their relationship with her wasn’t simple; it was stained with pain and resentment, but also with a strange form of need and dependency.

It’s complicated. Sometimes, the bonds we have with those who hurt us are the hardest to break.

Both Adora and Catra will always be conflicted with Shadow Weaver forever, cause this woman had been their only parent-guardian-mother figure throughout their young lives, with manipulative, emotional, physical abuse, and harsh disciplinary. Too bad that these two young ladies didn't know Light Spinner first before she became a dark weaver. Only King Micah had a little of both light & dark personality from this once Mystacor Teacher ... 💔❤️‍🩹💢

Holy hell. Deep words in the description. And deep meaning in the art with no words needed. High class.

Exactly. Even when doing the right thing, it still shows what kind of person she was

Someone once compared Shadow Weaver's final words to Catra and Adora to Eda's last words (or what she thought would be her last words) to Luz near the end of Owl House's first season. "Shadow Weaver is still being selfish and self-centered when she says “you’re welcome”. She is doing the right thing but even to her last words she can’t stop trying to make the situation about her. Eda, meanwhile, wants Luz to know that the kid did good. So her last words are a message of gratitude. She knows that Luz will be distraught, and tries to leave her with whatever reassurance she can."

I've always pictured them having a more complicated relationship with Weaver now that she's gone. Absolutely love this!

...well just make me cry in the middle of a Wednesday on my break why don't you 😭

Such a beautiful way for both to grieve for her, even if their relationship to Shadow Weaver was so weird and difficult. I love your ideas on this, Iria! It for sure is complicated, but I think both girls cared for SW in their own way, since she was their only mother figure. Great work here, the art is stunning again!
