Until a few weeks ago, I had a massive lead over last year's word count. I was very pleased with that, but sadly that gap's now shrunken to only a few thousand words. Since Easter, I've struggled to get back into the flow of things. This is the first week I've properly hit my stride again, or at least my thousand-a-day.
Still. Last week I pushed out the rewrite of the encounter with Darius, and I think the new version is much better than the older one. And there's good progress on the current chapter - the first draft was posted yesterday, but I've already made substantial changes and the final version is really starting to shape up.
More importantly, perhaps, this week's been pretty big in terms of personal stuff. I tend to keep personal stuff... personal, because you're here for the stories, not authorial melodrama. But for as long as I've been writing, I've kept my fiction separate--hidden, really--from my real life. This week, I took down some of those barriers and shared the fact I had a half-million words of fiction with people very close to me. It was terrifying, in some ways, but ultimately liberating. The current chapter and the dialogue between David and Dmytro reflects at least some of that personal story.
Coming next week:
--> the final draft of Book 5, Chapter 5
--> another piece of art by Fraylim, created for an upcoming chapter.
Have a great week!
