Just wanted to share a fun little project I’ve been working on. For this series of digital illustrations, I wanted to challenge myself with 3-4 smaller drawing that follow a similar art style, in both anatomy and a simpler level of detail and paint application.
It’s not complete yet, but I think that the challenge here has been making sure that I don’t over detail an individual character, and rather, make sure the overall style is consistent between them… this sounds obviously simple but its something that I’ve struggled with a lot in the past (exposed) 😂
Right now, I’m keeping my shadows quite sharp and not getting too painty with it yet, in favor of simplicity. Also, I had some trouble with the proportions on the green car, so I might take some time and dial that in before proceeding to render.
Workflow-wise, Im finding it helpful to complete each step of the process for all characters before moving on to the next. For example, I sketch all four characters first, then add color flats to each, then shadows, and so on. That keeps everything consistent and lets me build up all of the characters together, rather than individually.
