One small improvement, a series

Just had this thought and I'd like to turn it on ourselves before I turn it into anything that might expand into an actual series or something.

But I'd like to know, in your opinion in the comments below this post, what is one improvement you would make to Back Issues. Just spitballing, but I'd love to know from as many of you as possible what one small improvement you would make to the show. Could be a set change, could be an editing style, could be whatever.

Yet they are both very good at it.

Neither Ben nor Ethan want to host.

I would like to see Ethan lead a story he enjoys and explain it to Ben and then vice versa while you and/or Tiff provide context where appropriate…. You could also do a series comparing the comic with the adaptation.

As a sound engineer myself, I have enjoyed watching the quality of production - sound, lighting, set design - increase as the years have gone by for Comic Pop. There is a vast difference in the new videos compared to the old videos - especially in audio. I noticed the pic of Ben installing floating foam recently, that will help alot and the more you add the better the sound will be and the less echo"y" it will sound. Keep up the great work guys and gal! Comic Pop WOOOO

There are times where Tiff, or Ethan (really anyone) point out something and describe it, but you don't show the image. Obviously, due to copyright you can't show too much of the book, but that is something that I've noticed every now and then. I love how deep you go into on each book, but I especially love the discussion about the books at the end. I would love for Tiffany to host more episodes, though that may be a harder ask as she has a full time job.

i know there's an aversion to showing images from the books, but I think as long as you white out the speech bubbles you can show some images at certain parts? a bit of visual aid for key moments you discuss can be nice

I think more of when you guys get into the art of cutting to the art, if that is feasible.

Christopher Wolf

For me if possible I would like to some of the art in book

Longer form videos with no cuts for Patreon members of a certain tier. Kind of like how Corridor Digital does their stuff, here is the YouTube version, here is the longer version for Patreon members. But don't do early release on Patreon! We need you to keep getting likes and views on YouTube so you grow in popularity!

I loved when every 10th episode was a crisis. It would be nice if that turned into ultimate Spiderman or another ongoing series.

Allyn Weimer

Sounds like a fun concept and would love to see you run with it. That could go to so many levels. Anyway, not the answer you are looking for, but I wouldn't change a thing to Back Issues. I thoroughly enjoy your work.

Roland Rüter

Not sure how feasible this would be financially with how videos are monetized on YouTube but I sometimes get lost in the story, especially when the back issues episodes are on the longer side. Maybe splitting the episodes into shorter multi-part episodes? Then at the beginning of each part, you can incorporate a short recap of what happened in the last episode. I think this would help me keep track of the longer stories. Just throwing it out there.

I’d say get the most votes you get, even multiple platforms. That may guarantee more views.

Rami Darwish

Yeah I know I'd pay extra for that feature

And if needed, the voting can be a tier higher also. And Sal can pick from a group of books we can vote on so it doesn't have to go completely nuts.

Joey Fantone

Exactly, people would be more invested if they know they can have a part in dictating aspects of an outcome.

Hussain Haider

I like what you mentioned on the red raiders show of taking the multi camera approach of GBU and trying it with Back Issues, but I also get all the financial help that would take to make that possible.

Nathan Markel

I second this. And can even be advertised as a bigger incentive for patreon.

Joey Fantone

I dunno what your audio editing process is or if it has changed (I often go through old episodes), so if this is already addressed I apologize. Sometimes someone will be too quiet or moments of laughter/excitement are too loud. I end up missing things and going back, or having to ride the volume. There’s a bunch of audio plugin effects that can help with this sort of thing in most editing apps. Vocal riders, compressors, and loudness normalizers all help.

Alex Cash

Maybe a monthly poll that decides a video you guys would do? Like all other episodes obviously would be picked by you, but once a month the audience gets to add in? Adds participation from the audience so it kinda makes people look foreward to a specific one they'd really want to see. The options from which to choose from would be selected by you so an obscure book like 100 bullets wouldn't get picked.
