Astrid Eleanor Andersen
Age 18-22 in college, 22 in the narrative "present," from Oslo, Norway.
Astrid was Clarissa's roommate in the dorms for their first two years in school, and then lived with Clarissa, Miyuki, and Lyta in their college apartment until they all graduated.
Fascinated by the night sky from a young age, Astrid got her degree in Astrophysics. In the narrative present she has a job with the ESA while working on her grad degree - she still visits the other girls occasionally (and vice versa), and corresponds with Clarissa regularly.
She has a friendly, outgoing personality, and enjoys hiking and other outdoor activities in her free time. She has a casual attitude towards nudity, partly cultural, partly as a result of living with a bunch of other girls who all have a casual attitude towards nudity. She once got stuck outside completely nude during a fire alarm, somehow.

Additional design notes:
While Miyuki, Clarissa, and Lyta are all 5' 4", Astrid is taller, maybe 5' 7" or so.
She speaks with an accent, but it's the vaguely-but-not-quite-British accent that continental Europeans often have - they learned English as a second language, well enough to not have their own native accent but not so completely that you'd actually mistake them for being British (also usually more technically correct than native speakers). My thought is that for Astrid and Samaira's voice balloons I'd use British spellings instead of US when it comes up (provided I remember to do this, of course).
Her hair is slightly longer here than in the original design, that wasn't entirely intentional but her hair would vary in length so it's not a big deal.
Her moose shirt here is based on Doc Baghead's Gwen's shirt, of course: Skjonn means "sweet" as in having a sweet personality. Her look in general is yoga pants, t-shirts, and fleeces - casual and sporty.

There's a decal/badge you can get for Volvos that's basically a Ferrari shield with a prancing moose in place of the prancing horse - I strongly considered buying a Volvo when I got a new car last year and I was absolutely going to get the prancing moose badge for it if I did. So anyway, my personal headcanon for the Scandinavian version of X is always X + Moose. Of course Norwegian Rio having a pet moose is also great on its own. If Emily and friends are still in school but have been there a few years, then they would have been there the same time as Miyuki and friends (who should have just finished) so likely they all ended up naked together, I mean it's kind of what they do. Also very important that they don't look alike, it would be very awkward to end up nude with one's doppelganger.

2025-04-03 06:30:26 +0000 UTCThe logo on Gwen’s shirt is supposed to be Rio’s pet chupacabra; Breadsticks. I can only assume this means when adapted into a Norwegian Crime Drama Rio (Flod?)’s pet was localized into a moose (perhaps a spectral moose to keep it a cryptid?!) so as not to confuse audiences… this is A level world building we got going on here! Also, thanks for not making her look too much Emily! Now it won’t be weird if they have to get naked together!
