Boooooooook :D

Aaaand its done :D

Winifred Sanderson's Spellbook from the iconic movie Hocus Pocus is ready for printing :)

I'm sure you will have lots of fun with this one, plus it will be used across multiple props, plus there's aloooot inside,  so lets recap it all :D :

- 1:1 scale stl files for eye animatronics mechanism and the book
- 1:1 scale 3mf files for eye animatronics mechanism and the book
- small scale resin print fully combined version ( + a hole cutout for pendant version)
- build guide for 3d printed parts
- open source arduino code for eye animatronics and motion detection sensor
- open source arduino code for a version without the sensor
- hidden ON/OFF switch
- easy access to electronics
- parts list and links to products
- schematics on how to wire everything up
- Step by step video on how to assemble the eye animatronics ( 12 min long )
- optional 3d printable eye or link to realistic eye for purchase

The book is rather huge, im printing it now, can't wait to put it all together but it all works very nicely

CODE LOGIC:

- starts animatronics
- does random movements from one of 5 sets of movements
- closes eyelids
- waits 7 second for motion sensor to be activated
- upon detected motion eye animatronics starts again

- this process is repeated until you turn it off

Lets fire up our printers and start making some halloween props :D

Available to all "we are makers" tier members :)

depending on your patroen status - this is avialable to “we are makers” tier members - the moment you joined an automated email is sent to your email inbox with all the links ( this is in the September folder) , its the first message you get from patreon - it has welcome models, lat month projects and this months projects. so it should be in your email inbox allready :) if you still wont be able to find it, let me know :)

I just joined is this still available here or does it go to somewhere like my mini factory after the release month is over?

Robert McIntyre

Where can I find files?

Rab

Thank you, I did not find it in the STL folder, but copied it from one of the other builds. (5x5 pin.stl). Might just be my issue, but good to go now!

RedSoxRobbe

In the "stl" folder there sre 5x5 pins. They are used across all my projects so you can print like 100 of them as you will ise it. The plate is empty on purpose to emphasize that there is more stuff in the "stl" folders than in 3mf - there always is. The pins are also mentoned in the pdf build guide - page 4 They are are not the same size or depth as the magnets - magnets are 8 mm, pins are 5 You need the front sode with magnets open to acess electronics anything else can be glued more and reinforced hower you see fit to make it stronger :) as kong as the front plate remains removeable :) Feel free to share thr finished one , once done :) Also, i just posted on IG the assembly video :) https://www.instagram.com/reel/DBAGkTkqyes/?igsh=ZDk4bHN3N2tjaTJk

Marko Makaj

I'm just curious about the holes in the book-back files (they're cooking in the printer now!). Are these meant for pins to align? They also look the same size as the magnets, but I imagine gluing the two back pieces (and two front) would be more solid. I didn't see any printable pins; they were not mentioned in the build files (plate 3 is empty - perhaps this was meant for it?). Thanks again for a great build. My wife will love it as our "Hallowversary Gift" this year! Should have it done and ready for airbrushing by next week!

RedSoxRobbe

Boss, just for reference can you post the dimensions of the eye module?

Caio Donini

Awesome! Thank you!

Cory Sullivan

I sent the links to your patreon inbox :)

Marko Makaj

I just upgraded my membership level to to "We Are Makers". How do I go about downloading the files for this? Thanks!

Cory Sullivan

Wich part is the charm ? The orientation that is included in the 3mf is how im printing everything and so far it all turned out great. Ive also seen in FB group quite a few prints. Feel free to drop me a mesasage if you have print issues, but i would first advise to check out the included 3mf and just copy print orientation

Marko Makaj

Any recommendations on orientation for the charm? Trying to print it off again a 2nd time now. The 1st one let go in the last 10 minutes or so. However, the bottom looked pretty bad. Adding supports now, but not sure if it’ll fix it. Currently I’m printing it upside down from the top of the book as the bottom since it was shown as a flat surface.

Chris Martin

those on the side are holes for 5x5 pins :)

Marko Makaj

Another one, Marco. I printed the split parts. To join the book covers, I see some holes in the middle. Is this the same pin part that is used for the eye?

Víctor García Castañeda

Thanks dude

Víctor García Castañeda

thats right

Marko Makaj

Just seen it. It is 8x2 right?

Víctor García Castañeda

Sorry, Marco. I don't know if I miss it. What measures are the magnets used?

Víctor García Castañeda

Oh- I hadn’t realized they were a purchased part! Ok!

Ryan

Okey Dokey. I'll look for some. I'm pretty sure I have both 90 degree and 360 degree ones. I'll find some 180 degree ones. Thanks.

Michael J Coar Jr

thank you so much :) hope you will like upcoming stuff as well :)

Marko Makaj

i’ll check the link, buti shared the link i ordered it from and mine are 180 . the 360 will not work, as 360 is not positional, it can just rotate endlessly, and does not “remember” the positions, so you need the 180 one … use mg90s servo ( 90s name for the strength not degree of rotation- just in case) , but you can buy any 180 mg90s sevo’s , they will work ,but they have to be 180

Marko Makaj

I can add those , but i always worry that printed ones will nto be as good as 'realiaroc ones" with gloss we can buy, bit i know there are many talented artists iut there so why not :)

Marko Makaj

As a special request- any possibility of a vertical-slit “cat eye”?

Ryan

Thanks Marko! I appreciate ya!

J K

Hi, I'm starting the prints now But the link you have for the servo says it's no longer in stock. And while your parts list says it's 180 degrees, the link you provided says it's 90 degrees. Is 90 degrees what's actually required? I have a couple of 360 degree servos the same size. Will those work?

Michael J Coar Jr

This has been a wish list build of mine for years ... I was on the fence about joining when I first discovered the patreon then I saw the book and I was in!

Markus

yes sir :D haha

Marko Makaj

im sure she will love it :D its such a cool and huge project :D haha

Marko Makaj

woohoo :D

Marko Makaj

not a problem at all, we all started somewhre, whatever you need, dont hesitate to ask :)

Marko Makaj

i do plan to add quite a few more for halloween ;) ;)

Marko Makaj

happy to hear, cant wait to see it :)

Marko Makaj

thank you so much, makes me very happy to hear that :)

Marko Makaj

oh there will be more for sure :)

Marko Makaj

I don’t think I’ll print the book out but the eye parts I definitely will. Would love to see this in a mimic chest, or the book of the dead, beholder, of mad eye moody’s patch from Harry Potter.

Herb Veitenhans

Thanks my dude! Sorry for being a noob over here. 🤣

J K

Dude you are awesome and make the coolest things ever! Keep up the great work!

Derrick Baker

You have outdone yourself Marco! This will be the first project I’m doing as I will have a complete room dedicated to all of my projects. This is going to be a very fun experience getting my foot in the door with electronics. Thanks again!

Zane

Oh I see what your saying. Thanks!

branden price

one of them has a cut thru the middle - that means the "eye" where the animatronics wil have a cut, and i don tlike that, while the other has the "eye" where the animatronics goes, cut out, so you have the same split into 2 parts, but you also have the "eye" portion of the front cover standalone, so its a cleaner print :)

Marko Makaj

Thank you, Marko! Something different and completely unique to play with. Halloween is going to be great :)

Ed_F

I think I miss wrote my question. What is the difference between the 2 versions of the front cover

branden price

as long as the pin layout is the same, any of it should work

Marko Makaj

front part is too big, so its split into 2 parts - A and B

Marko Makaj

haha no worries :) i will be posting more videos, its a bit of an advanced projects, but there is allreay a video on how to put it all together :)

Marko Makaj

google drive links can not be share here in the comments as those are public so everyone would see it. :) your files are in your patreon inbox - all of htem are in one place, if you open up your patreon inbox, you will find the SEPTEMBER 2024 folder, its all in there :) if you scroll up in your patreon inbox you will find previous months :)

Marko Makaj

Thanks. I missed all of that LOL.

John H.

I see a few different Arduino on their website but also Amazon has the elegoo nano board Or regular Arduino every single board which one will work?

Enrique Hernandez

What is the difference between Front cut a and b? Thanks

branden price

as mentioned in the post :)

Marko Makaj

Could you kindly share the google drive link pls? I can never figure out where it's located here. lol, I know, Im dumb!

J K

Yes! Been waiting on that

Vince King

Is there a BOM for the animatronic eye?

John H.

Nice! As soon as my handles for the katanas are done today I’ll start on this. My wife really wants one. I’ll try to surprise her with it for Halloween:) as always, you’re the man
