Old projects updated

Ok by now i think you might get tired of the lightsabers :D

Just wanted to let you know i have updated 2 old lightsaber projects to be compatible with the new electronics

- Baylan Skoll lightsaber

- Anakin ep3 lightsaber

So if you have access to those, just hit refresh and download new versions :)

Now, i still don't like the new chassis design that aliexpress is shipping with the new electronics and so far i didn't have the opportunity to share my thoughts , so I will do that now :)

The "new " metal hilt they send uses 1 screw on the back  that has a thread machined in . Unfortunately we can't use that approach on the printed ones as the thread on the plastic will wear out after a few tries and then it will be useless. So to make it useable over and over again, i am using an M3 nut on the inside that combined with m3 screw holds the electronics in place. 

The downside is that now, not only do we have a hole at the front, ruining the aesthetics of the saber, but also on the back, making it difficult to work with some sabers. Well, not difficult, just not pretty. 

Some thinner lightsabers like Anakin's and Baylan's have wall thickness that is too narrow for the m3 nut to be inserted so we need an extra cylindrical extrusion on the back in order fol all to work. For that reason i don't like their "new" designs as it ruins both front and back of the lightsaber, but unfortunately it's the only way to go

I also attempted to make it compatible with heat inserts, but same problem again, some inserts are wider than the wall thickness of the lightsabers, and then you’re left with buying yet anothre more piece of hardware so i scratched that. 

So to recap :

Upside - you will be able to use pretty much all electronics

Downside - on some saber both front and back side of the lightsaber need to be changed, and that reduces “how pretty it will look” 

If i think of something else, i'll let you know, but so far this seems to be the only option , so i will continue to update old saber projects :)
