I'm digging deep to find suggestions, but perhaps it could help to think of ways to show rather than tell - for example, rather than just alluding to Kelly losing her interest in sports, mention something about her trying to hold on to her sports memories and feeling proud that she finally remembered that she played wide receiver, which was the person in charge of guarding the net against home runs. That can convey the loss of knowledge more effectively (and can be more fun to write). You're doing great work. Keep it up!
