BIG CHANGES TO OUR PATREON, new tiers, podcasts are free for everyone, and Game Club!

Hi everyone (TL;DR at bottom),

It’s not news that the world is going through a tough time. It’s stressful!! People’s health but also their jobs and school situations are facing unprecedented hardships and challenges. And we’ve been thinking about what we could do to make our patreon a fun escape for people that also supports the show.

So first things first, NO MORE TIERED ACCESS TO CONTENT aka all rewards unlock at $1. If you pledge anything at all you will get access to everything. We’re doing this because we know money is tight for everyone, and people need entertainment and community now more than ever. We want people to still be able to access the discord or vote on new episodes even if they need to cut back. This means that all patrons will now have access to the discord, can participate with the podcasts live recordings, and can see the community feed and vote on future videos. So you are still welcome to pledge more than $1, and there still will be higher tiers for people to pledge, but they won’t have any special rewards attached to them besides a cool name and our gratitude :) 

We’re also going to make access to the podcasts and certain behind the scene things FREE FOR EVERYBODY. So anyone who isn’t able to pledge will still be able to listen in. But things like Discord access, voting on video topics, and early access to videos will still be exclusive to the patreon because it’ll be easier for us to moderate. We think that’s the fairest way to give people who can’t afford to pledge access while also keeping some stuff exclusive to our Patrons. Second, (and this one is a two-fer), we will start recording TWO podcasts a month and are restarting the SSFF Game Club! We thought it would be fun for us all to play a game together every month as a skelefamily! I know I could use a little more social time. Here’s how it should work:

1. Every month the community will vote for a game on Patreon
2. Which people can then chat about, organize play alongs, whatev, in the discord 
3. And it will also be the subject of our second monthly podcast!

To keep things accessible for people, we figured we’d limit our selection to NES and SNES games currently available on Switch Online. That way people can get the games there if they choose (I believe there is also an online co-op feature), or can easily emulate them elsewhere 😏 We’re hoping that limiting to NES and SNES will also keep game complexity down to a certain extent; it feels like some Game Clubs are longer games, like JRPGs and I’m just never able to commit to that! So let’s do some shorter games! We’re also hoping this can tie into the high score challenges we already do on the Discord. There’s a poll down below already, go ahead and vote on it! 

To make this easier on our production schedule, we’re going to move the podcast recording days to Monday, change the time, and adopt a (sort of) biweekly schedule. The new schedule will be like this:

• First Monday of the month: 3pm PT Regular Podcast
• Third Monday of the month: 3pm PT SSFF Game Clubcast

You can listen and chat along with us live on Discord, but we will still post them on Patreon after the fact if you aren’t able to join in. You can even add our RSS link into your feed and it’ll automatically update there! (This also means that April’s regular podcast has been rescheduled to Monday the 6th and it will record one hour later in the day at 3pm PT). 

One note: a lot of our rewards are tied to Discord, and I am hoping that Patreon will add people automatically, buuuut sometimes if things can go wrong, they will. Just in case, here is a support link to get your Discord access! Please message us if you need any help and I will walk you through it.

Also, just want to emphasize that we’re still working hard on videos and don’t anticipate any of these changes affecting that! We think this is the right thing to do, and it’s a small thing that we’re able to do for all our supporters and viewers to hopefully add a bit of fun into their month :) If you want to lower your pledge for any reason, we understand! It’s reasonable to think that times are going to be tough for all of us for a bit. We want you to take care of yourself and your family.

      1. (For example, April’s Podcasts will be recorded on the 6th and 20th)
5. SSFF video production will continue on as planned 💪
