NEW VIDEO Half-Life Console Ports | Punching Weight [SSFF]

Stay indoors with the last big 90's PC FPS franchise for Punching Weight to cover! You voted on it, kinda, and here's a look at Half-Life!

Half-Life didn't have as many ports as Doom or Duke Nukem but it makes up for it in amazing stories and secrets. For example this episode features one my personal favorite secrets we're ever talked about--a secret bonus campaign on a demo disc! Plus, did you know that there are a handful of PS2 games with mouse/keyboard support, and you can just plug in any USB mouse/keyboard in to the system?

Also one last fun fact, I've had a loose copy of Half-Life PS2 for a while, but that boxed copy is actually Grace's Dad's copy. I don't know if he ever actually played it, but I'm certain he didn't know about how to get the Uplink demo.

This one's going up Thursday morning so enjoy your exclusivity time. And let us know if we got anything wrong (it's been happened... um, I think, once or twice maybe)

Thanks as always and please stay home if you're sick!

Would be interesting to see video about source engine itself, and how half-life helped create things like Counter-Strike and team fortress

Could the stage-left camera be a recurring character? Like the rad 90s robo-cam or something? ♥️

this is a good idea!

For a follow-up, could you cover in Punching Weight officially sanctioned Half-Life fan games and mods? The biggest example is of course Black Mesa, a remake of the original Half-Life running in the source engine. Then there's Half-Life: Before, a less than stellar mod for Half-Life available on the Steam shopfront. There's Lambda Wars, a Half-Life RTS modification for Alien Swarm also available on Steam.

Quick Google search and the game list to be honest isn't that exciting. Except TIL there was a port of Age of Empires 2 for PS2 because it was mentioned on the list

Yeah definitely would make for a good video! I'm just not sure how many games there is to talk about.

I guess we'll never know, but 15-20 second loads weren't that uncommon on Dreamcast. I can't imagine it being much better on the real thing. Still a solid port otherwise.

Now that you mentioned Half-Life supported USB keyboard and mouse on PS2, it's fun to have a video about what other PS2 games that support it

since the dreamcast's drive laser works extremely hard reading burned cd-rs, i have to wonder if the game would have loaded much faster on a proper sega-produced gd-rom
