Poll & Feb. Update - Tell us your thoughts!

Hi everyone!

January was a slow month for us full of personal challenges and some shake ups in terms of how the channel runs. We’ve really appreciated all of the support we got from you during this tough time!

We talked a bit about how Grace had a death in the family and needed to travel, but (and we haven’t discussed this publicly) we also left our Multi Channel Network last month.

We think this will be a good move for the channel going forward, however in the meantime we aren’t sure how this will impact the channel’s ability to make revenue or even reach people in Youtube’s algorithm. We probably won’t know exactly how it will work for a couple of months! We thought it would be important to tell you guys about it because it’s a decision that’s weighed heavily on us.

On top of all that, we've been evaluating ourselves and the community we’ve all built on Patreon. 2018 was the most successful year the channel’s ever seen, and we think we’ve taken lots of risks creatively and learned a lot. But we want to know what we can do better!

If you have some time, we’d love it if you could fill out the below poll and help us get a good idea of how you’re feeling about the Patreon. We also have some questions for you, and it’d really help us if you could comment below with your answers. Please be brutally honest!!

We’re going to move our Patreon Podcast live recording to this Monday (February 4th at 2pm PT!) this week, and we’re going to open it to the whole Patreon so that everyone can have a chance to talk to us about these updates and give us feedback.

We launched this Patreon in 2015 and it’s been the bedrock of the channel since then. Thank you so much for your time. We’re so grateful for the stability you guys have so generously given us!

Grace and Derek

Echoing what others are saying here, I don't really have any particular expectations regarding rewards. I support you guys on patreon because I like your videos and I want to encourage you to make as many of them as possible. I've thoroughly enjoyed all the videos the channel has been putting out. I want to specifically single out the Dragon Quest XI video because it was a really interesting step in a more investigative journalism-type direction. I wouldn't want every video to be like that one, but I love seeing the channel taking swings at different types of stuff.

My favorite series of yours are Re: Certified Classic, Past Mortem, and of course Punching Weight. I would love to see more of the former, they're by far my most rewatched of your videos. I remember during the one about Silent Hill 2 you mentioned how bad the Silent Hill HD Collection was. I'm super curious to hear your thoughts on that. As for the Patreon, I'm more than satisfied. I love the podcast, the updates, the occasional bloopers. Nothing to complain about at all about the Patreon.

I must admit, I'm a really satisfied Patron! Your work is worth way more the little money I pledge, which I consider extremely well spent - I hope I'll be able to pledge more in the future! If I have to decide my favorite content, it's the "research and examination videos": for example, that MegaMan 2 credit scene analysis was truly amazing, and it's the same for the Tim Follin video or the Mighty N.9 debacle. I also love videos about single games because you always go way further than a regular review: you look to every single detail, share personal experiences and tell us much more than a bare description of the game itself, it's always very, very interesting to listen to. I really like all your stuff, to be honest (maybe except for your very last video, but it's just taste!), but those videos are sure my favorite! As for Patreon content, I'm only in the first tier and, well, it's a very tasty first tier! I think you have a very good Patreon structure with very good rewards, there's not much I would change. Keep on with your great work and don't worry for the lack of videos in January: that loss, which I'm sorry for and you sure have my prayers, was a bigger priority.

Been a massive fan from the HVGN days and was delighted to find out about SSFF sometime last year. As a game developer I adore your Post Mortem and Punching Weight content, especially the one about the Atari Halo project. I may be the minority on these but i love when you just play and stream games. Also the breakdown of Historical Society is just fantastic... Maybe more videos where you talk through a great moment or feature like that in real time or with slight editing. Honestly though you guys are fab and whatever content you feel like covering is what im here for. Im also very sorry for your loss Grace.

Punching weight is easily my favorite. Also when EDF iron rain comes out I'd be curious to hear what you guys think about it and EDF 5. Loved your videos on the past few games since they got me into the series in the first place.

Patreon to me is not a service, it's a donation tool. I have no wishes for any type of service onto me, I just want to help out with a tiny amount and do my part to keep y'all going. Then again, I don't engage with the Discord nor most of the Patreon content outside early cuts. And outside my personal perference for what the output should be on the SSFF channel, I feel like I should have no say there. I just like y'all stuff and have been for about 10 years?

I wasn't huge on the last video, but that's okay. I don't chip in because I expect exactly what I want from you folks, I chip in because I *can't* entirely expect what's to come, and I want to come with you on this journey while you improve and continue to make better and better things with more quality consistency, which has been shooting up for the most part.

I enjoy your content and like having a way to support you guys, even if its only a tiny bit of support. It doesn't matter to me if you guys take a while putting new stuff out because i can always go back and rewatch older stuff and still feel good supporting you on this patreon.

I've been subbed since the HVGN and Retroware.tv days and I just recently became a Patron so I haven't listened to the podcast yet. I'm content with just supporting the show and getting videos a day early or so. I'd say my favorite might be Past Mortem but Punching Weight is either right behind it or tied with it. I enjoy all the content though. I appreciate what you guys do, love ya'!

I am currently satisfied though I am not a stickler for rewards. - Punching Weight all day! (Still would love some way to talk about Gotcha Force and other crazy -somehow-got-localized games) - Podcasts are really fun! Nice for putting in the background would love more! Othervise I just like seeing videos early. - Like to see more? Probably more podcasts. I find the more regular, the more it settles in as a "show" rather than this extra 1 hour of conversation I get monthly. But I do understand the time-investment. - Honestly couldn't say, though I feel my standards are low! XD
