GUT CHECK: Dino Crisis & Resident Evil 4 for Halloween '15
Added 2015-10-09 21:14:01 +0000 UTC
Production on Halloween reviews for 2015 has officially begun! On the docket this year is a Dino Crisis Retrospective and Resident Evil 4 - Re:Certified Classic, both going up the week of Halloween.
GUT CHECK: Got anything to say about these games? Weird trivia I should know about? I'm still in the early stages of production and I love talking with you all so let's talk shop! Comment below!
ReCert is both a history and review show but it's meant to a heavily researched but brief overview on both. In doing research for RE4 and DC I've been overwhelmed with interesting facts about the RE series (which i consider DC an honorary member of, along with DMC and Onimusha). And on Mikami directing so few RE games, Inafune has never directed a Mega Man (I don't think at least). He's been the series producer but he's still basically Mr MegaMan himself.

Hewie and the connection to Haunting Ground isn't very strong. I want so bad for it to be true!! But I've researched the topic and can't find too much on the official-side of things. My hypothesis is that all of these "scrapped" versions of RE4 weren't completely scrapped, just all crammed into the game. That's why this game has like 200 boss fights and villains. The miracle is that it all some how works!

Oh god, RE4 is just...its just perfect. One of those few games I played RELIGIOUSLY, playing it through several times and then doing a knife-run only (though with the help of the Ditman Glitch, which breaks the game in funny ways but makes knife-runs arguably easier/possible). Now as for weird Trivia about the game...well the game was supposed to be more supernatural in an earlier build, video footage of said build existing online for a while now. I am sure you found that one already, but its an interesting concept to think of the 4th game in the series to go from arguably Scifi to outright supernatural horror, with Leon fighting through a ghost infested castle, fighting hook swiging ghosts and creepy dolls that need to be burned to be put down. But alas, we got regular RE4 and that actually came out amazing, so no hurt there. :V Another trivia? The dog you save before the village and that helps you out several times? Its Hewie! As in the Hewie from Haunting Grounds! Now the question is...do both games possibly take place in the same world, or is it just a very obscure easter egg?

Did you know about Resi4 auto-adjusting difficulty? <a href="https://youtu.be/zFv6KAdQ5SE" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://youtu.be/zFv6KAdQ5SE</a>

Umm...I found the first Dino Crisis for 25 cents and there's a cool Fan HD Revamp being made for the "HD" PC version.

I'm not entirely sure what all information you have on Resident Evil 4/Dino Crisis, but a few good talking points I feel are:
Resident Evil 4: How Shinji Mikami was made to make a more action packed Resident Evil after the 'failure' of the Resident Evil: REmake on the Gamecube. Why Shinji Mikami chose the Gamecube over the Xbox and Playstation 2, and how Capcom forced Mikami to port RE4 to the PS2 despite threats of cutting off his own head.
I know that's not really the point of "Re:Certified Classic" but I have a hard time saying anything about RE4 other than "yeah, it's a well designed game." I just got done playing the HD remake for my own footage, and yeah, it holds up fairly well, but it does everything so well it's hard to find talking points. I still end up correcting people calling it "survival horror" though. Like how Resident Evil defined that genre, I feel that RE4 defined "Action Horror".
Also, I'm really interested in the RE4 builds that didn't end up being in the game. We know one eventually became Devil May Cry but there was the one with "hookman" or whatever it was called, and there was supposedly a zombie build that didn't get very far.
Dino Crisis: How it's the only series that Shinji Mikami actually directed after Resident Evil 1. (He produced the others but didn't actually direct the series until his return with the REmake.) I would also like to see a good comparison between Dino Crisis and Resident Evil because I remember the game is philosophically entirely different but holds up extremely well on it's own. There is also Dino Stalker which was pretty good for a rail gun shooter, IMO.
If I think of anything more from my own recollection, I'll be sure to bring it up.

can't 100% confirm just yet but i think yes, the dreamcast version is better! visuals got a nice bump, the audio mix is way better so you can actually hear the voice work, ammo and health on the vmu is awesome, and i THINK they beefed up the guns a bit to make the dinos a little easier to put down. the only problem is that dreamcast d-pad, it's so elevated on the controller it's super hard to run straight without veering off to the side. or maybe my controller is just getting worn down. dinocrisis is on psn for cheap, makes for one hell of a price difference but so far the dc version seems great.

Is the Dreamcast version of Dino Crisis any better than the original PS1 version? The Dreamcast version is quite a bit more expensive, and was wondering if the quality of it reflects the price accurately. I am quite interested in getting it, and want the best version. :)
