Video: How to make rocky bases for your miniatures!

Apologies it's slightly later than expected, I had some technical difficulties. Hopefully there's some useful tips here for a couple of different methods to create rocky basing for your display or table top miniatures. Let me know what you think!

Low cost Milliput: https://elementgames.co.uk/paints-hobby-and-scenery/epoxies-milliput/milliput-standard

Plinths: https://www.taromodelmaker.com/

Clay Shaper: https://www.pencils4artists.co.uk/colour-shapers-size-0-c2x37188409

Royal Sovereign - I recommend size 0 for most work.

Soft/firm white/grey for Milliput
Extra firm/Black for Greenstuff

Hey Dave, great video. I have a question about the plinths. Do you paint them in any way, like primer, or leave them as they come?

Michał Tyborowski

Super useful. I've already made a bunch of pieces ready for basing. Just thin pieces, going to try some chunky ones tonight.

I think the rotary tool is very useful for adding the texture as milliput becomes very difficult to work with once dry. You can also sculpt in any details/texture as its drying but yes for this method the rotary tool is pretty much essential. Thanks for the feedback as ever Tim!

Always super helpful content. I can see myself using this for both basing and terrain pieces where I want to add some character and detail. The surface texture on the rock looks like it would be hard to achieve with just a knife. To get the same amount of variation in the surface is the rotary tool pretty much essential?

Great video as always. The first part’s a bit like making a puff pastry!

Awesome vid as usual broodah and great to see an actual video of this method as there’s a bit more technique to it than just words in an article can easily convey!
