If you've been a patron in the past and have access to Discord, you can now play this prototype for free, right now!!
Now with that out of the way, it's a little silly to show off screenshots of progress only to patrons. But... let's show it anyways!

The TESTZOO map is meant to be both testing grounds and just a quick way to access features. This new arena space will be used to test combat balancing between the "imps" and the soon-to-be "doomed space marines". You can hide in the weird chimney at the back and let the two factions hug out their issues! The fireball love is quite infectious!

Yes! We now have explode-y barrels of... erm... imp juice. Lets go with that...
The coloring is still a bit off, mostly just using some palette trickery that GZDoom offers right out of the box. I'm not sure if I prefer this look or plan to edit it in an art editor later. We'll see...
Be careful! The barrel explosion is quite hazardous!

These weird gray stiff things will be used for placeholders, going forward.
I have had them around since starting development. All they do is stand still, with a side benefit of using them to test animations. They'll still do that, but I have tweaked their logic to utilize 'use' and 'shoot' behaviors. Also, they don't phase out of existence randomly, which is nice...
You can play a copy of this prototype! I'm very proud to announce that this very basic beast is now playable, so you can experience the oddness of UDTF in an old 1990s game for yourself.
It's not available in this post because I think prototypes and versions are better shared on more accessible spaces: Discord, Itch io, and other free services seem better suited. Plus, it's not really 'done', just prototype playable.
So, if you have both of the above things (Doom 2 and you joined the Discord), please try my little prototype and let me know what you think.
I'm actively working hard to make this prototype (and later updates) as accessible as possible. In the immediate future, I plan to make this fully playable alongside either 'Free Doom' (an open source alternate collection of DooM content), or with the shareware version of 90s DooM (technically a demo copy that's sharable for free)
I'm also working on buffing out and away parts of the game that are not as fun, so that I can start focusing on the important things (animations, code logic, better level flow?)
I'm also thinking about later adding support for other demons, but that mostly relies on sprites and logic more than anything else. Probably better animations too.
It should be fun!
Thank you to all my patrons for funding and toying around with this strange niche of content. I hope you try it and enjoy what it has to bring (even down the line!)
