Cursed Game is shelved. Now what?
Added 2021-08-28 03:36:07 +0000 UTCYes, This is still very unfortunate news to break. I'm very sorry for disappointing fans with this sudden news. I've broken down details into two FAQ-styled posts. This post is dedicated to explaining next steps.

So... where do we go from here?
Is Cursed Game of Cursed Items cancelled?
No. It is shelved, but not cancelled. I'm still planning to use September to add some final bug fixes and post one last build for fans before officially taking a break. I'm also planning to clean up the code slightly and upload the entirety of it (minus anything that licenses may not allow) to a Github. I strongly want to encourage continued development of this game, even if it might not be lead by me. I'm happy to provide art assets, design feedback, and general knowledge dump to a new team.
Will the current Cursed Game still be available on itch.io ?
Yes. I have no intention of removing the alpha version of the project, even if another team takes over and a more official page is created. People like peering into the secret world of game development, and I think this odd and UDTF-heavy version is a fine time capsule.
Will you do more weird game development?
Yes, I hope to. However, I tend to thrive in short, sporadic game jam bursts, so future projects are likely going to be brief, buggy, weekend toys. However, I've also been pitching a smaller expansion to Cursed Game (codename "Lizzie Cove") to several people, and I think the positive feedback is an indication that I should pursue that. Expect to see future developments on the limb-based TF animation system thing.
What happens to your Patreon?
I return to roots and focus on drawing art. If there's anything I learned from weeks without a computer, it's that I really missed drawing. Also, I learned to appreciate the natural and often messier medium of traditional drawing in a sketchpad. I'm really rusty at it, yet I want to learn to utilize the less clean splotches that spawn creative moments. Game development will not be a focus, but will be something I produce from time to time, to keep things interesting.
I also owe a LOT of art commissions to a lot of very patient people, so I need to get cracking...
Hopefully, these posts will help give context to what is a very difficult decision. I encourage you to continue funding this Patreon, though I understand if you decide it's not for you. I still want to pursue big ideas from time to time. It would be great if you stuck around and steered it some :)
