Chapter 73: Ripples in the Stars

High above the pale blue city of Vahl’Torr, capital of the Kree frontier sector Velkaris-9, the skies shimmered under layered force fields and patrol drones. The city stood on a world of ice plains and crystal cliffs, one of the oldest Kree colonies near the outer edge of their star maps. It was also one of the most fortified.

From the orbiting fortress-station Judicator’s Eye, High Commander Vahr-Nal stood before the central observatory. Behind him were fleet commanders, scientists, and technomancers, all facing the same swirling hologram.

It pulsed.

Blue. Purple. White. The same frequency repeated, like a wave rising from the depths of the cosmos.

“It’s active again,” said the chief technomancer. Her fingers moved over a control pad, scanning the anomaly.

“Coordinates?” Vahr-Nal asked.

The woman nodded. “Just beyond our claimed borders, sir. But close enough to detect. We believe it’s a gate.”

Vahr-Nal narrowed his eyes. “Another empire?”

The readings didn’t match anything the Kree had seen before. It wasn’t Shi’ar. Not Skrull. Not even the ravaging Brood. No known species used this level of raw dimensional energy.

“The signature,” she said slowly, “is identical to what was recorded in the ancient texts. Infinity-class energy. It resembles the Space Stone.”

A silence spread through the room.

Every officer knew what that meant.

That kind of power wasn’t natural. It was dangerous. Unstable. If someone was opening a dimensional gate using that power… it had to be stopped before it reached further into Kree territory.

Vahr-Nal didn’t hesitate.

“Mobilize the Ninth Fleet. I want our fastest cruisers on standby. Shield the planet. Prepare the Starbreaker and have it wait near the anomaly.”

He turned sharply to face the hologram. It now showed a small, flickering circle. The forming gate.

“We will not allow some unknown species to open a path into our galaxy, not this close to Kree space. If they carry Infinity power, they’re a threat to the empire.”

The officers bowed and moved.

---

Hours passed.

Near the edge of the system, the gate shimmered brighter. The Kree fleet was already waiting, their ships hidden behind cloaked satellites and comet shadows.

The moment the Tesseract Gate stabilized, scanners screamed.

The fabric of space tore, but in a way the Kree had never seen. It didn’t collapse. It didn’t fracture. It was held open, held with stability and force they didn’t understand.

“What kind of race has the knowledge to do this?” whispered the science officer on the command deck.

“Doesn’t matter,” said Vahr-Nal aboard his flagship. “They opened it into our sky. They knew someone would be watching.”

Then the first signal came through. A beacon of unknown human code.

Vahr-Nal stepped forward and gave the order.

“Broadcast a warning. If they ignore it, we annihilate them.”

They sent the message.

And the humans responded with arrogance.

“You speak of territory. But this galaxy belongs to mankind now.”

It was enough.

“All ships, open fire!”

---

The battle was violent. The Kree fleet moved like blades. Their warships had fought hundreds of battles, and this was just another intrusion.

But these humans were different.

They fought back with precision, with strategy, and with weapons that matched Kree firepower. Some of the Kree cruisers were destroyed. Their soldiers fell against giants in armor who fought like living war gods.

And in the chaos of fire and plasma, Vahr-Nal watched from his flagship’s viewport as the gate remained, unchallenged and open.

“They weren’t scouting,” he realized. “They were colonizing.”

He clenched his fist.

“This is not just a skirmish. It’s the beginning of an invasion.”

---

Back on the capital world, in the halls of the Supreme Command, messengers rushed through glowing corridors.

Holograms lit up in blue urgency.

“Unknown beings encountered at Velkaris border. Technology uses Space Stone energy. Forces defeated initial Kree fleet. Possible war-class civilization.”

High Admirals gathered.

The Kree Empire, prideful and ancient, had ruled their part of the galaxy for thousands of years.

Now something new had stepped into their skies.

And it was only just beginning.
