The dino who didn't make the cut :')

A little while ago, I was playing with the idea of making a dinosaur design for caps and beanies after an off-hand comment from a guy we bought bagels from in New York City :P

He wanted something that was "cute but tough" and my guinea pig beanie didn't scream fierce to him (clearly he hasn't met a guinea pig before hehe).

But I really liked the idea of doing a dinosaur beanie! So over the winter, I made a "fierce but funny" design that I quite liked.

It's a little dark I know, but I wanted something that wasn't just tough but also a little funny. I really love designs that make you do a double take :P

I sent this off to my supplier for samples, and after lots of anticipation finally got the first pics! .... but the colors weren't right and something felt a bit off. So I had them redo the colors for a second round, but it still didn't look quite as I imagined.

When I saw the pics, I didn't feel like I "loved" the design as much as when I originally made it. This was already a risky design because I already knew it wasn't a super popular after doing some polls on Instagram, despite a select few who did love it.

Originally, I planned to do a small run for the fun of it, but the reality is that a small run is still quite expensive and I really don't want to have leftover stock that just sits on my shelf collecting dust.

So sadly, I've made the decision to shelf this design for now and move onto something else. I feel like I can make a better dinosaur design that I will love even more, and I've learned that part of running a business is knowing when to cut your losses before investing too much.

So onto new dinosaur designs cause I'm determined to make a dino beanie that will appease the random bagel guy I met in NYC :P
