I've been deep into researching, sketching and designing for my next collection, and I still haven't totally settled on a design yet. If I had all the time in the world, I would make them all! But I have to be realistic because I'm not only limited on time, but also skill.
It's easy to think up these ideas and draw them out, but executing them into functional pottery that can be used daily is something else entirely.
The design at the very top of this image shows a planter idea that I would love to make, but making something that big with such detail would be challenging.
I don't have as much experience throwing larger forms and usually use only 1 kg (about 2 lbs) max. Making a large planter or bowl would require at least double that amount, which may not sound like much, but for me is quite difficult!
These designs are more ambitious and detailed than anything I've ever made before with my pottery, and I feel like I'm really challenging myself. I could of course paint them with underglaze, but then I would be really limited with the amount I could make and my goal is to make this both practical and somewhat scalable.
At the moment, the only design I'm really confident in making is the short dragon mug with the square handle, which is what is currently in production. My goal is to make 100 dragon mugs for the first release, and I think we should be on track for a restock at the end of the month. That is, as long as we don't encounter more hiccups at the studio!
