Working with new clay :O

I've been playing around with a new type of clay that I think would be really lovely as planters! Right now this clay looks light red, but when it's fired completely it will be light beige.

It's my first time using this type of clay and I'm excited to see how it turns out. I wanted to keep the clay raw, meaning without the shiny glaze over the whole thing. I'm not sure how it will turn out, but later today I will get my test samples back and will show you what they look like!

Looking at the photos now, I can see I need to clean up my pieces more. The lines/banding you see on them is something that should be smoothed out during the throwing process, especially if I want to keep the clay raw. Lesson learned and I'll be sure to do that as I make more!

Oh well, it happens even at the best of times 😉 You've got this!

Yes! These pieces are already bisqued so I might sand them by hand to remove the lines. I wish I'd done it before so I wouldn't have to sand now 😅

You might know this already, but if you reach the bisque stage and want them smoother, you can also sand them by hand (with water to keep the dust under control). 😊 Otherwise, yeah, metal ribs during the throwing process, burnishing during trimming, or even going in with a soft paint brush in select spots to smooth things out can help!
