I was gonna wait to post this till tomorrow, but my day filled up with errands, so have it early!
This shouldn't have taken as long as it did, but when inspiration strikes its the artist's duty to capitalize on it! Had big ideas for a redesign for Bonito, which really was less of a redesign and more of a realization of what I was going for in the first place (you'll see what I mean if you look at the very first, awkward images I drew of her).
Why is she so big? Well, I saw a Grindavikur commission featuring "kaijufication" and it really rang my bell. I like the idea of infinite growth in theory, but not so much infinite weight gain (sadly I'm not an immobility fan). There are many creatures in nature that grow forever, and it seems fitting that a dragon would as well. Perhaps it's because Bonito is an "elder dragon" or something, and when well fed she will slowly (over the course of decades or centuries) continue growing as Kibble stuffs her belly, obviously loving watching her progress. That would also allow me to be fast and loose with her size on a picture-by-picture basis, with the excuse being that they are set in different time periods.
I've been making serious efforts to improve the quality of my work now that I'm doing this professionally, and I hope that it shows to some extent. Big props to HardCoreCrocomire for helping me out with great advice on my coloring, which I hope I put to good use in this piece.
