Monthly Post: Soft Locks and Writing + I'm sick

NOTE: I originally typed this out at the first of the month, and then somehow got the coof the next day before I could post it. Then I just forgot about it for a while.

I'm fine, I basically had the flu for like two days and then the actual worst of it came after cause I have the rare side effect of everything smelling rancid and tasting bad. I've had this when I got sick for before even as a kid, but this is the worst I've had it, and the longest amount of time.

It's been like this for a week now and it's extremely frustrating. For now I'm trying to figure out how to make my space not smell horrible to me, and figure out what food I can eat that doesn't taste like bad refried beans. From what I've read it could be like this for months and if that's the case it might affect my motivation to do my work if I can't manage this.

If not for this smell and taste thing this would be nothing. But now I feel nauseous all the time cause of how gross everything smells.

Anyway now on with this very late post.

Original Post:

Hey peeps, since I already gave the big news mid-month, and not a whole lot has changed this post will be relatively short.

Like I said before the dialogue is now functional in game, and playable up to Act 4. But that was only in theory, in reality a lot of issues were revealed causing a lot of soft locks in the dialogue progression! :P These softlocks aren't really the games code but the structure of the dialogue which needs to be done in a particular way.

So much of the last couple weeks has been:

In good news eventually we made it to at least the start of Act 3. And decided to review the dialogue from there.

Some issues were found, largely related to general themes, so there's no need for major rewrites largely. The main thing is there's this dialogue related to the players job that's simply too lengthy, too vague, and too distracting. So that's getting a lot of cuts and rewrites, because there's also needs for the planned work minigame. The rest is adjustments to the dialogue for character consistency, and thesis which is a consequence of hiring multiple writers over time.

I'll be handling the work dialogue personally, while the writer who is permanent now handles the rest.

After that gets squared away I'll shift focus to progression implementation. Which has a range of needs across UI, dialogue conditions and more. The goal is to finish this stuff this month and shift to cinematics before the month is up.

I said before that there would be a test release for dialogue but that will have to wait until the rewrites.

Conclusion

Thats about it, like I said a short one. Further handling of dialogue and progression but we're coming to the end of the long road this has been. If you want perspective on longer term plans, consider reading the last post.

Thanks for your support and patience

You're right and tbh it's long felt like I'm operating on borrowed time. And really everyones patience has been above and beyond and I'm grateful for that. Understand I'm fully aware of how long it's been since the last update. Unfortunately it's not as easy as you might think to make regular releases, we'll get to that point but at the moment (or at least until just recently) it would make things much slower. Mid development releases as is wouldn't just be buggy they'd be utterly broken, usually when I make a release i spend at least a week trying to make things decently playable. And then I end up undoing all that work a week later. But this is because so much has been changing internally until just recently. Especially with the IL2CPP changes that became mandatory for mobile builds required a lot of code review. There's also things to be careful about like avoiding a scenario where use save data is corrupted There's a similar issue with the story dialogue where it has changed so much, until again, just recently. And I want feedback on the story and dialogue I intend to deliver, and that I think is good. And the focus on a natural relationship progression means that story is quite long, and if not presented properly could give a negative impression making all that work worthless which is genuinely terrifying. There's Act 0-3 before you get to the state of the game everyone has already been playing (Act 4). I'm aware thats quite long, and there's a chance people might not like that especially if it's presented poorly. And in order to get the best feedback of that, it has to be presented in an at least semi-reasonable state. Cause if not, the feedback would just confuse things. And really that story content is the main content thats been worked on, while new outfits and sex content is planned (and some even made) right now that story is the content that needs the most feedback. Otherwise most releases would be like the last release that added saving but made unlocking the items annoying, no other content, little functional and internal changes. I know it's been too long, but the rewrites should be completed this month, and a limited build release should come for story feedback as soon as it's done. And after that regular releases will start again as the progression gets added and feedback for things like the rate of progression is needed. I hope this clears things up ~sacb0y

Momoiro Software

That sounds nice and all, yet, without any aggression on my part, nor any intention to come across in a negative manner... are you aware that it has been nearly a year since you last made an update available for play? I see regular posts about the progress being made, and this is nice... but most people do not mind playing a mildly buggy version being aware that most issues will be resolved, and pointing them out to the creator is generally of no great difficulty, and may even assist in speeding progress. These versions are typically called 'Beta' versions. The real issue, would be lack of tangible progress from the perspective of those supporting you. It is in this manner rather similar to running a company. See Jamell's comment on your previous update. It is nice to know progress is being made but no one is benefiting from it, including you, if that progress is not available to those that would, could, or are supporting you.
