Also, I'm probably reaching here, but when they saw the house with the sky and sand colored yellow, it reminded me that in the Oz books, Winnie Country, the home of the Wicked Witch of the West, was the place where everything was colored yellow., and water was her fatal weakness. Related? I don't know.
