We Are Family has an entirely new meaning as we sashay back into the closet (just this once we promise!) for our first time watch of the iconic queer classic THE BIRDCAGE! We’re defining what it means to truly be a Mother (and a Daddy) as we close out #Pride in the gayest of styles 🏳️‍🌈✨🌈

I'm glad you guys got to see this classic. Actually, it's funny to think of this movie as a "classic" since I can remember when it came out. But I guess it was almost 30 years ago hehe. And as you mentioned, it was a very different time in the 90s. At that time, I'm going to guess that less than half the country was comfortable with the idea of gay marriage, and many of us lived "in the closet" because gay bashing was a very real, very common thing. This was one of the first few "gay" movies that was put out for mass consumption that was really accepted by the general public - really thanks to Robin Williams, Gene Hackman, Dianne Wiest, and Christine Baranski who were big name stars at the time. And in fact, Nathan Lane was still relatively unknown and very much "in the closet" in his own life. This movie was one of those breakout films that actually began to change the minds of the American public in regards to LGBTQ rights. And when you think about the fact that this movie is based on the 1973 stage musical "La Cage Aux Folles," even moreso the attitude towards our community in the 70s was even stricter. I'm glad you guys enjoyed it though! Definitely worthy of Pride Month. There are so many more films to see... "To Wong Foo, Thanks For Everything, Julie Newmar," "Torch Song Trilogy," "Jeffrey," "Trick," "Flawless," "Latter Days"... the list continues to grow. :)

When you watch the movie, keep in mind the time when this was done. There were not a lot of gay themed movies and the studios were careful not to 'push the gay agenda'. It's a whole new world today and it is beautiful to see. I agree with a commentor above. Watch Torch Song Trilogy. It is a beautiful story and one of my first gay movies as a young conservative woman who grew up very sheltered. It put me on the path of discovering a fantastic group of friends and a cause that I will fight for to the death for. Thank you for watching this movie ❤️

This movie never gets old! I enjoyed watching it with you all, that made it so much better! If you haven't seen "Torch Song Trilogy" You will love it. A must watch for Pride Month, or anytime to be honest. Straight girlie here... And what about it! 😘

That was such an enjoyable watch a long with you two!! Iconic film!

Happy Pride! I first saw the musical theater version "La Cage Aux Fauxes" (highly recommend) then this movie and both were transformative for me! Watching with you now I get how there's little accountability or resolution, but for its time (stupid fucking excuse but there you have it) just the subtleties of acceptance there were considered a huge win. Seeing this ending as a kid gave me so much hope! At the end y'all called out "who's gay?" *deep breath* I use queer or pansexual- straight men, trans men, gay men who wanted to give it a try (yep I'm that girl), gender neutral/fluid, cis straight women who want to explore, gay women, trans women... wait I think I'm just a slut 🤣 I have a queer husband and gay wife - we're not monogamous lol. Together we co-parent 3 kids: 12 yr old queer girl (wife birthed with ex), 10 yr old (says he's both genders but likes 'he'), 9 yr old boy who is the most normal kid ever with a big heart. It was so great watching this again, and being a part of your experience- thank you for sharing it with us! 🖤🖤

I love this movie so much! A lot (and also not much) has changed in 30 years, but it's still so funny and such an enjoyable, feel good film. Nathan Lane and Robin Williams had so much chemistry and both gave amazing performances. Val will never not be the true villain of the movie. It breaks my heart every time when he basically shoves his mother to the side and acts ashamed of his parents. He comes around in the end, but still... he pretty much sucks. This was such a fun watch with you. Great reaction as always!

I’ve seen this movie probably 100x. It’s iconic.

I have always loved this film and am so happy you, my favorite pumpkins, are reacting to it. Christine Baranski is a treasure. Didja ever watch 3rd rock from the sun? Miss Baranski has a short stint in the show and once you see her sing, lookout, you will never forget it. The son is such a problem, I can understand doing things for your family but this was just a bridge too far. What's next son, dya want me to give up breathing for your convenience? Oh one more thing, Robin Williams falls at 1: 40:00 as a mistake really, it was not scripted that way, and they still used it. "I rolled my eyes so hard just then" nearly killed me, omg, THAT was hilarious. Happy pride month sweeties❤️

Just got home and this literally was dropped. I am grabbing something to eat. Getting comfy and ready to watch. RIP Robin Williams.
