DONNIE DARKO (2001) *REACTION* FIRST TIME WATCHING!

No amount of Therapy can help us recover from the absolute mindfuck that was our first time watching Donnie Darko. We laughed, we cried, we might have even died - but you can blame this tangent universe on our patrons for picking this movie! 🐰😵‍💫🪓

Maureen Prescotts sister also was Madeline Usher in the fall of the house of usher

Lol to be honest we are still a little confused too! 😂🙈 we watched this video and it did help clarify some! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ZrPYryNhWs

Boys can you please explain this. I was confused first time around, this viewing didn't help. Great film and reaction.

Pip

His Mom was also "Stands with a Fist" from "Dances with Wolves".

The thing I love most about this movie is it’s thought provoking about time travel. The little wave they did to each other at the end, it’s like déjà vu or the Mandala effect. Which has me always thinking what if, when I see someone who looks familiar but I’ve never met before or seen before. Or an experience you could have sworn you had but didn’t? Crazy.

As a teen in the early 2000’s, the hypnosis scene played a pivotal role in my gay awakening. 😅😅

I liked Midnight Club. Did you read MF's Tumblr? He posted all the storyline and reveals that would have been in season 2. Gives a lot of explanation and closure.

Loved your faces at the end! This is one that makes for great rewatches and will have you up at night thinking about it - thanks for sharing! 🖤

Well.... not sure what I can add to that. I will answer your question about being hypnotized though. When I was in high school, I took a psychology class. The teacher had a PhD and was going to do a hypnosis experiment in class so she did these kind of screening tests to see who was most susceptible to be hypnotized. I did not get picked. In fact, she told me she had never seen anyone who was less susceptible to hypnosis than me. 🤪 Needless to say, I have some control issues. 🤷‍♀️ It was cool though. She did it with a girl in the class and actually raised her body temperature by giving her prompts that she was in a really hot environment. Took her temperature before starting and after and it actually went up. Also- Mary McDonnell is incredible! She was most recently in Mike Flanagan's "The Fall of the House of Usher." I assumed that you guys had seen that already but since you didn't mention it when talking about her maybe not. I definitely recommend watching it. It's so good. As is everything Mike Flanagan does. Except for "The Midnight Club." We don't talk about "The Midnight Club." 😬

Re: everyone waking up at the end of the movie, Jim's crying because he knows he's a monster, Cherita is smiling because Donnie said nice things to her, the science teacher is worried because Drew got fired, Ms. Farmer is crying because her true love is a pedophile, etc.

Nadia (Livvycat)

Any other questions, please send them my way

Nadia (Livvycat)

Oh yeah and at the last session with the doctor she tells Donnie he can stop taking the medication, BECAUSE THEY ARE PLACEBOS. 0_o (another deleted scene)

Nadia (Livvycat)

Roberta Sparrow went to the mailbox and got Donnie's letter, that's why she was in the middle of the road at night, you can see the letter in her hand. The bullies "like to steal shit" & Donnie's parents mentioned Roberta was rich & kids would try to steal from her. Frank was the sister's boyfriend, you can see his red car driving away from the house at the beginning of the movie when Donnie bikes back to his house. In the theater when Frank says I'm so sorry, he was referring to killing Gretchen. When they're all waking up from "the dream," Frank touches the eye he's shot in. Donnie time traveled in God's timeline & did not "choose the path of Fear" as Ms. Farmer said to Rose. In deleted scenes there's a part where on English class they watch Watership Down & Drew explains deus ex machine, that was referenced when the car came in the end scaring the bullies away.

Nadia (Livvycat)

Fat guy in the red sweatsuit is an FAA agent that's been watching Donnie since the crash. How do I learn to fight kid at the assembly was a plant (same kid from the jim Cunningham video).

Nadia (Livvycat)

I was obsessed with this movie for years...there's so much detail that you'll catch on another watch. Btw, the bully that isn't Seth Rogan is the lead singer of Phantom Planet.

Nadia (Livvycat)

Please watch the new Roadhouse movie, it's surprisingly good.

Just make sure to watch the original Cannes cut if you do check it out.

Donnie Darko is a fantastic film! I’m glad you guys enjoyed it, even if you need therapy afterwards haha It originally starred Jason Schwartzman instead of Jake, but because of scheduling he dropped out. After the Sundance premiere it got proper funding from both Barrymore and Christopher Nolan. They actually re-wrote the part for Drew. This movie is also how the song Mad World became re-popularized. Richard Kelly is an awesome guy and amazing filmmaker, you should check out his second film Southland Tales, which is more of a dark comedy surrounding a Trump like administration ruling America. It also stars the queen Sarah Michelle Gellar as a porn star/pop star mogul. Truly iconic!

sometimes i doubt your commitment to sparkle motion

I’m so glad this movie won the race. I watched it months ago for the first time and still think about it. The score is awesome, so I added it to my main playlist.
