CHALLENGERS (2024) *REACTION* FIRST TIME WATCHING!

We're sat for a first time watch of CHALLENGERS! It's the most tantalizing match of the year and you know exactly what we're here for because we don't know a THING about tennis, but we could watch these boys bounce balls all day. Zendaya, Josh O'Connor and Mike Faist are serving the sexiest love triangle of the century. 🥵💛🎾

Very glad to see you guys react to this, Luca is such an amazing director. Also, if you guys haven't seen Josh O'Connor in the gay drama "God's own country".... Must recommend.

what is love? what drives people? passion or commitment? support or inspiration? status or emotions? human beings are as complex as they are simple. perspective & desire can change anything.

I agree they were all three very manipulative. However, I did watch an interview with them where they admitted that Art was actually the “bad guy” if he had not planted the seeds of doubt in both of them back at Stanford in all likelihood, they would not have had the big fight she would not have been injured and that trajector lives would’ve followed a much different path. also what about that the daughter we don’t know her age, she looks closer to 6 yo to me, but if she’s a small 8, she should she could be Patrick’s!

Best movie of the year so far for me. Love Luca’s directing style and the score for this is insaaane. Part of the reason is because the 2 same guys who did this score also did the score for gone girl! Patrick + Art 4ever

yeah now that we've spent some time away from it and been able to process everything you're definitely right. In retrospect this is definitely one of those "its about the journey not the destination" movies. We're really excited to rewatch it after reading what everyone has to say because this movie really does have a lot to mine from it!

What I love about this movie is that, IMO, Art, Tashi, and Patrick are all terrible, but they are all also vulnerable and sympathetic. And I genuinely think each of them is "the wronged party" in different ways. (And honestly: I sympathize more with Art than Patrick, but objectively I think it is clear that Art is just as manipulative and entitled as Patrick and maybe moreso.) And I may be in the minority here, but I'm actually glad the movie ended where it did and did not answer the question of "who, if anyone, ended up with whom." I think that was, ultimately, beside the point. I think the point was that they all love each other, and hate each other, and care about each other, and resent each other, but in the end, the love they all have for each other won out over the hate and resentment.

I'm gonna say Tashi was the most to blame, and Art was the least- though they all had their shit. Does Tashi have a damaged amygdala? 🤣 I got the impression that tennis and tension were the only things that really made her feel anything, so she lived for both to try to be happy. (Why having a 'yes man' is the thing that she thinks she needs but it isn't). Part of me is a bit disappointed that there weren't more answers at the end, but even before the end of the match I had decided that Art and Patrick ended up together and told Tashi to fuck off 🤣

So much yes for this! I had similar thoughts with this final match really bringing things together at the end, with so many callbacks to previous lines 🖤

I love that the whole movie revolves around Tashi's line of "Tennis is a relationship." And all three of them are strongest when they're messing with each other. I don't really care that much what happens after the movie ends, but those last few minutes are exactly what she was talking about in the beginning and they're finally playing some actual tennis instead of just playing each other -- which is why I think Tashi gives that triumphant yell in the end. It's the happiest ending there can be for any of them.

i'm sorry but i'm a patrick girlie

I am an Art girlie and he will always be my one and only but I felt like you guys were being a little harsh on Tashi and Patrick, I agree they did a shitty thing in Atlanta and the night before the challenger tennis match but Art also meddled into their relationship. Although Patrick and Tashi knew what Art was trying to do his words had some effect on both of them. Tashi started to believe he was fucking other girls while on tour and Patrick thought she didn’t care about him and only about tennis. What I’m trying to say is that none of them are innocent and they all did their share of shitty things at one point in the film. I do gotta add that Tashi’s greatest love is tennis but she does love Art and Patrick in a way, it is difficult to see it because she has an extremely different way of showing her love that could be misconstrued as apathy. There were little things she did for Art that I interpreted that cared for him, for example, when she told Art that she would leave him she followed by saying, “I’m serious. Does that help you?” meaning she is coaching him to get him to play because he was lacking confidence. She looked distressed after saying she’d leave him and although she ended up cheating on Art, she spent the whole time talking about Art to Patrick and how she wanted him to throw the game. I feel like Tashi had plenty opportunities to leave Art but she didn’t and Patrick even gave her an out (to coach him) and she still was hoping for Art to win. Other than that she has a lot of passion for Patrick so there’s definitely some attraction. Art was mad both times that Patrick served like him not only because Patrick fucked Tashi but because he was being left behind. Art even says this Patrick earlier in the film, “I just don’t want to be left out.” He clearly loves Patrick and Tashi, and Patrick loves Art and Tashi. Therefore, the final scene to me means that the three of them will become a throuple with the ending song, “You and you is me. Play the game, one, two, three. I can feel you, touch me" reinforcing this interpretation. A fun fact, if you remember Tashi said at the beginning of the film, “Tennis is a relationship” it represents love and sex. Art and Patrick were playing tennis while grunting and moaning (basically they were having sex in the end) and Tashi was watching them in the middle which calls back to hotel scene when she encouraged Art and Patrick to make out with each other while she watched. The scream that Tashi did at the end was the climax.

Great ending. Thrilling movie. Zendaya was the most to blame. Josh wasn't innocent but he wasn't married to either of them. Calling him asking him to lose then having sex again with him.....not a good look. Mike ending his friendship and trying to steal away your bff women isn't innocent either. None of them were nice people. But the couple who should be together at the end.....the guys. 100% need to be a couple.
