FELLOW TRAVELERS *REACTION* 01x05 "PROMISE YOU WON'T WRITE"

We started covering Fellow Travelers because we were told it was relevant to the times, if only we knew how true that really is. This show focuses on silencing individuality and free speech, among with other issues. After what happened to Melissa Barrera this week, it's clear that these are not just issues of the past, which is why it's important to watch shows like this one.

Just watched the trailer for episode 6. Looks like there's going to be drama. 😀

Thank you so much. I love both of you. 💗

I was hoping to see flagging (with bandanas) but I thought the hats were a really nice touch. The quiet signals and signs are there and were so necessary for survival. Tragic but that's why it's so important to show it because that was reality. The freedoms and rights for us all are barely there, and we have to hold on and keep moving forward. It's the only way to honour those lost in this ongoing fight

Queer history is so important for everyone. I was too young to be around for the HIV/AIDS epidemic but have friends that were - listen to their stories!! This wasn't that long ago and it's still an issue that doesn't get talked about enough. I'm glad they're giving us some of the political shit show and I'm thrilled that somehow EVERYONE is gay in this ❤️ Can't wait for the rest! I will only watch this along with you two 😄

thank you nat!! it really is baffling to find out all the stuff that has been hidden from us in our education and now it almost feels like whiplash trying to understand the TRUE history of our nation, specifically when it comes to queer history. Thankful for this show opening my eyes up to an entire can of worms that I had never even heard about before until now. this is why media matters!!!

lol we love you even if you're not gay!!!! (promise 😉) all jokes aside we are sincerely sorry for your loss and hope that you're doing okay watching this. sending you all the love and good vibes--as scary as this world is, it's up to us to stick together and to lift each other up when things are bad because this world often feels so hopeless 💔 thankful for shows like these that illuminate these issues because it's so important to learn from our past and all we can do is hope people are truly listening...

Petty Pumpkins

that's all we can hope for 😭

I started watching this show because queer love + the entire cast is sexy but wow my heart is broken and my mind is blown. It’s really making me aware of how little of queer history we are taught. and my heart breaks for all the 40-50-60-70 year old queer elders we could have within our communities that were taken away from us because of the homophobia that was so rampant in response to the crisis. Like it’s actually mind boggling, that gay marriage was only legalized 10 years ago and in the last few years…well we’ve all seen the egregious anti LGBTQ laws all across the country. it’s just really eye opening watching this and realizing how much history/life is taken away from and hidden unless you really search for it. loving your reactions.

I'm not gay. (I hope that's okay) One of my brothers was gay and died of aids in 2002. That broke me. We were ride or die for each other. I have so many emotions watching this show. However, it's very well acted, and very well written, and directed. This is as real as it gets for that era, and dare I say beyond. I feel like we are moving backwards now. And it's frightening.

In retrospect, maybe I should have stopped at Hearstopper. Hopefully we've left the 50's behind but I don't think it's going to be an easy ride, hopefully we'll get a few tender moments before the end.

I've been watching a lot of reactions to this show and realized that not one reactor has noticed something interesting when it comes to the bathroom cruising scenes. If you notice, there is a distinct difference between the men and it's subtly being told you visually. By the hats they wear. To use language I detest: the bottoms all wear newsie-style hats while the tops wear fedoras. While these particular hat styles aren't necessarily historically accurate, the coded dress is. Gay men would often adopt certain styles/articles of clothing to basically show who they were, to those who knew what to look for. Edit: On another historical note: The conversation about the difference between a pixie and a fairy actually did happen. You can find audio of those hearing and listen to it yourself.
