August Update

In terms of drawing this month, I'll be looking over some things from the past to see if there are any characters/series I feel like revisiting. I might surprise myself with something new, of course, but I always forget who-and-what I've done over the months. Time flies!

Now onto the real meat of this update!

I've been meaning to do some minor maintenance/cleaning up for a while now, and intend to start the particularly labourious process quite soon. It won't affect the end user (i.e y'all), and even if it does it will make things better. A few things I'm intending to go over:

- Firstly; when I started Patreon didn't have a proper "gallery" function, so I had to upload the variants in the comments box. It was awful. Now, however, they DO have a proper gallery function. I want to go back and reupload pictures so that they're much more comfortably viewable.

-Secondly; in addition to that, I'm probably going to reupload the old rar files with higher compression zips.

- Thirdly; my tags were a mess back then. I need to streamline those and make them actually useful, and since I'll be going back over a lot of posts it seems as good a time as any.

- Fourthly; in the spirit of "since I'm here anyway", I was considering adding a new $10 donation tier. I feel bad about having another option for more money with no actual benefits or rewards, but at least it means I wouldn't have to go through every post AGAIN to add one. I could just edit the one that's already there. I'm still undecided on this one though.

- Fifthly; I'll be deleting pretty much every non-image post I've made. It's honestly just the old polls that I left hanging around, so it's not a big deal, but it'd make a much smoother browsing experience. The only one I can think of keeping off-the-top-of-my-head is the Q and A I did that one time. I should probably do another of those at some point.

If you've got any suggestions/questions about this, feel free to ask. It's annoying janitorial work that has to be done. I'm not going to get it all done any time soon, but it'll start this month.

That's all the rambling I've got for the time being.

Away I go!

Comments

Yeah, it's a pain having so many tags with 1-or-2 entries. I like having characters tagged so people can find ones they like, but it can get a bit much. I'll be sure to test them out, but lately I've change them up and it seems fine so far. The new tier wouldn't ever change much, it's just easier to put the there and change it later if needed (when I say "change" I almost assuredly mean "lower the price"). I mostly just don't know if I'll bother because it's kind of pointless, I guess.

I've done the whole "go back and update the tags on every single post" thing in Patreon, and yeah, it's a major chore. One thing to be especially wary of is one-off tags. The way that Patreon presents the tag list is just freaking worthless imo, because it sorts them by *frequency*, instead of by alphabetic order. So if you have a bunch of one-off tags, it massively clutters up the bottom of the list, making the sole rare tag that you actually want to find almost impossible to locate. > -Secondly; in addition to that, I'm probably going to reupload the old rar files with higher compression zips. I would definitely recommend testing if this makes an actual difference before you go ahead with it. I've found that zipping images with stronger compression rarely results in smaller files. It typically just causes slower decompression. > Fourthly; in the spirit of "since I'm here anyway", I was considering adding a new $10 donation tier. It's a pain that Patreon is set up to make such a thing a potentially useful tool, but if you do this, I recommend making it clear that the tier is just a placeholder. At least until/unless you actually make use of it.

It's one of those things that is difficult in any way, but ho boy is is tedious! :P

Ooooooh! QoL (Quality of Life) improvements are always nice. It'll make the collectors among us able to drag all the zips back to our hoard. I fully approve! Hope it doesn't end up being too much of a pain for you though.

Well never give up hope and don't lose patience and you've been doing great recently and I'm proud to be part of your patreons but don't give up hope.
