Btw, might be a good point around now to have some more action / combat training. Maybe a mini squad mission?

2023-06-10 05:58:17 +0000 UTCThey'll likely come up at some point, but we're mostly focusing on the UHFMC, with the rest of the branches being more of a supportive role. --- Other Factions are generally vastly more "traditional", in the sense that they conscript people to fight in their wars. That's also how they get their integrated troops, by throwing an absurd amount of non-integrated people into the meatgrinder of war. Whoever comes out the other side will likely be integrated. When it comes to number of Factions, this'll be covered in GalPol101 that's coming up very soon, but it's definitely a lot more than the 2 we've seen so far. It's around a dozen different Factions. How they came to be and how Faction mechanics work will be more talked about in GalPol101.

2023-06-09 13:33:54 +0000 UTCAaah ok. These are some details I would love to see at some point in the story. Also I really want to know how other factions work. Especially for the non-integrated folks. For that matter, I would love to hear how the factions part of this works in the first place. We have some limited exposure to them right now. But I have no idea if there are only the 2 or if there are more. And how did those other factions come to be.

2023-06-09 13:00:15 +0000 UTCThe Civilian branch is indeed not integrated, for the most part. Some Marines, that end up discharged for one reason or another, do end up there but it's anywehre close to the main bulk, so it's fair to say they're mostly non-integrated. --- The Marines ARE the major bulk of the UHF Military, but there are other branches, such as the AD (Armored Divison), Navy, Special Forces and Black Ops. Compared to other Factions, the UHFMC would be considered almost a Special Force, as basically no other Faction fields exclusively integrated personell, except for their Special Forces. The Marines make up around 1/4th of the total military for the UHF, with the Navy being the biggest bulk. The Navy has a vast amount of non-integrated personell however, as space battles generally don't benefit overly much from the integration. --- Non-integrated personell is generally considered non-combatants for the UHF, although exceptions apply, such as with the Navy branch.

2023-06-09 12:56:44 +0000 UTCOne other question, are the rejects completely non-integrated? And are they basically non-combatants at that point?

2023-06-09 12:43:39 +0000 UTCGreat insights. For me when I heard "Civilian branch", I immediately assume that 1. It is non-System integrated. And 2. The Marines ARE the entire military and not just the elites. What I am seeing now indicates that there are other options to get integrated. And that the military is quite a bit bigger than just the marines. Almost seems like the Marines are the special forces of the military at this point.

2023-06-09 12:40:34 +0000 UTCThis is EXACTLY the type of feedback I'm generally looking for, yes. Thanks for the feedback! As Thomas Belvin correct explained: The current drive of Recruits is the elite - those that immediately managed to reach the treshold for integration, after 2 years of Basic training. The others that were in the same drive (little over 9k people), get another 3 shots at integration, at 3, 6 and 12 months post-initial integration for Thea and the rest. Anyone unable to reach the threshold, or unwilling to get integrated, by the time 1-year passes (which should roughly coincidece with Thea's group of Recruits becoming Privates), will be handed to the civilian branch. The rejects aren't TECHNICALLY restricted to a certain maximum rank. It's more of the fact that if you can't integrate immediately, you are likely to have bad System aptitude, which means you'll struggle with the integrated life more than someone that has amazing aptitude, like Alpha Squad. They could theoretically still become Generals and w/e, it's just not really realistic, speaking from a solely practical perspective.

2023-06-08 17:48:09 +0000 UTCFor 1: iirc Thea and the ither recruits were the elites of the recruitment drive. They were able to meet the prerequiaites for integration within the 2 years of basic. The others may be able to become full marines later, if they successfully integrate in their own, or reach the prerequisites and are integrated by the UHF, but they will be restricted in maximum rank. This does raise the question of if their maximum level is different than the elites of the drive since, iirc, rank is closely tied to level.

2023-06-08 16:20:39 +0000 UTCLast thoughts: 1. Love that the marines are encouraged to join the armored division. This introduced a whole new aspect to me that I find intriguing. How exactly does the military work for non-integrated folks? Or do the rejects from marine school still get integrated? I was under the impression that they moved on to more civilian life. 2. Absolutely split this into two chapters for the lower Patreon levels and especially for RR. However, not for the reason of it being too long. You have a natural divide here at the Small --> Medium hanger. From what I can tell there is plenty left on both sides of that divide for decent sized chapters. So why am I suggesting this? Marketing. Doing a bonus double release will do so much more for drawing attention than one single large chapter. You get all the benefits of this chapter being nice and long, but you also get boosted publicity. Heck if you are willing to be a mite dastardly, post them 1 hour apart. And let people know that the bonus chapter will be coming out in an hour when you post the first one. And last thoughts. As I said at the beginning this chapter could be totally left as is and people will love it. What I posted here are my own thoughts, impressions and perspectives. Take it or leave it, I will not be offended in the slightest. Do let me know if this is the sort of breakdown that you are looking for in these types of chapters. You asked and I had a blast going this deep into it. Since this was a wonderful nerdfest of scifi tech I had a ton of fun doing this. But if it is too much I'll tone it down for the next time.
