This is the second time I shoot with Elfa, but it is the first time I get to use the Monbello Asylum as a location!
I went there in August of 2024 to check out the location with a friend, and finally (now that the weather is good) I tried to shoot in this huge location.
It is inside a park, with numerous buildings, most of them abandoned and from various periods, but the place is famous since the end of WWI for having hosted the soldiers coming back from war.
All in all it was a scary place, dirty and full of sad memories, and Elfa said I must have been a maniac to feel so at home in such a place.
And I had to recognize I actually was a maniac, but only for photography, and I knew I was going to get some great pictures there.
But, apart from the intimidating place, Elfa was experiencing specific fears, and the first one were mosquitos.
I did tell her to take some repellent, but she took some sunscreen instead, that was pretty useless because we worked mainly indoors.
Fortunately mosquitos were exclusively in the first pavilion we visited, but now I will have to retouch plenty of bites in all the pictures!
In today's picture she is actually scratching one of the first bites...
I took 3 cameras with me, but used only on, Fujifilm GFX 50S II + "Martin" (the Zeiss T* 1,4/85mm Planar ZF named after the Patron that sponsored part of the purchase), and shot a total of 888 pictures (but with lots of rejects, more on that tomorrow).
This camera and lens combination was ideal for the location, with a field of view equivalent of a 68mm on full format sensors, and the smooth bokeh around the 2.8 mark, I felt no need to try anything different!
I guess next time I could travel lighter, with just a backup camera for emergencies.
For this shooting I'm going to use a different way to give something more to my Patrons, I will show you photos of behind the scenes, about the fears of Elfa, and I will tell you how we got along together.
Whilst on regular social media I will post only great photos, boring for not having the background story, but still great photos, so do not miss them!
