Some photos do not need technical perfection to be effective.
And this was particularly true during the film era, where you didn't shoot thousands of pictures with technical aids to correct your shortcomings.

In this long sequence I made with Gracie, this particular photo is not focused on the nearer eye, because it is in total darkness and you're not going to see it anyway; and it is not focused on the furthest eye, because it would leave all the rest of the body out of focus.
The focus plane runs from the nearest nipple, down to the nearest hand, giving the spectator plenty of details to concentrate on.
But the real star of the show is the light, helped by the composition, and the expertly relaxed pose of Gracie.
It is the light that gives the mood to this photo, and makes it right, even if it is not focused by the manual.

I will post 3 more photos of Gracie today elsewhere on the web, but none is as cool as this one, IMO.
