Mrs. Treves: No, Mr. Merrick, no. No son as loving as you could ever be a disappointment. John Merrick: If only I could find her, so she could see me with such lovely friends here now; perhaps she could love me as I am. I've tried so hard to be good.

2022-05-13 03:08:07 +0000 UTCWow!! Itβs been a while since Iβve seen this. Excellent pick, Neil! I was probably 10 or 11 years old the first time I saw this. It was on HBO, and my feelings then are the same as they are now and every time I see this movie - absolute horror, deep sadness and overwhelming anger. The always magnificent John Hurt (who also played the wand shop owner Mr. Ollivander in Harry Potter) delivered one of the most powerful performances I have ever seen. This film has never left me.
