Japan Day 3
Added 2016-05-14 12:52:39 +0000 UTCToday we went to Disney Laaaand! Tokyo. It was my sister's turn to call the shots since I dragged her into just about every shop I saw that struck my fancy the day before (without complaints ofc) so I conceded and we spent a good 6 hours exploring. Spoiler alert, there was very little difference between Disneyland Tokyo and its California counterpart. Still, we had fun and time enough for a few rides and souvenir shopping for our families at home. We nailed Space Mountain, Star Tours (which did have the new movie content added), Haunted Mansion which was quite a bit spookier than the one in CA and then the true mission... I had to find myself a churro. That was an interesting pantomime between the staff and my sister. Turns out we'd turned around earlier right before finding the stand! Needless to say, my legs are still killing me, my feet hate me, and I'm wondering how I'm going to survive the upcoming tour we've been booked on. Once at the hotel, we took a break before convening with the newly arrived members of our tour for a planned (and complementary) dinner which wasn't bad, but far from gourmet. But free, so I won't complain. Though I take issue with anyone who puts warm salsa pair with steak that isn't placed in a tortilla... In any case, that included the option of sake at no added cost, so I let it slide. For now. It was cold, though, so the reckoning may not be held off for long. Oh, side note: if you're following in Twitter you'll know I had my first rude encounter with a Japanese man at the hotel convenience store. It wasn't appalling by any extent, but he was clearly having a bad day. No smile, no thanks. Nothing but a frown. And no, no one owes me any of the aforementioned courtesies, but customer service is customer service and patronage is usually regarded with some form of appreciation. But not this time which was disappointing. On the bright side it's been the only time, though that also made it all the more off-putting. I'm also still getting used to putting my money on the counter at POS registers rather than handing my money to the attendant. I feel like I'm being rude just makin it rain instead of handing it straight over, like I think I'm too good for direct contact. Anyway, that's what they're used to and seem to prefer. Mr. Frowny-face just pointed to the counter when I tried to hand him my payment. I watched afterward on my way out and he gave the same treatment to the non-white patrons as well so I didn't feel so bad. Still, it caught me off guard for sure. That's all for now, I finished my bottle of sake and have been on my feet all day again so I should be able to crash nice and hard tonight. Thank you all for your continued patronage and I'll get back to you tomorrow about our Mt. Fuji adventures. おやすみなさい!
