So Heimerdinger definitely does sacrifice himself to get Ekko home however technically in some lore Heimerdingers species (Yordles) can not die they just return to a place called Bandle City whether or not the writers intend to use this remains to be seen if they Bring Heimerdinger back in one of the upcoming chapters of this universe. We will most likely see a small number of these characters in future shows in what capacity I'm unsure of.
