I love how they are focused on the skin tone for the kids but it's really all about the hair lol the hair is the thing everyone is focused on I feel in the show.

This is one of my favorite episodes in the entire GOT franchise. We’ve been programmed as an audience to always fear the worse for the characters, so for the writers and GRRM to think of adding the twist at the end, it elevated the entire series for me. When I first saw the episode, all the night scenes looked clear to me, so I was shocked to hear everyone complaining. Then I watched it again on my phone and was like ohhh…I get it now 😅

That aspect is still rough. The look of absolute sorrow on Rhaenys' face is palpable.

I can't help to think of the parents in the ending. As a audience we were happy that they didn't kill him off, but in their eyes both their daughter and son are dead.

In the world of Game of Thrones that was practically the act of a saint. Brutal by any other measure but this show is to be watched on its terms.

Rhaenyra for sure knew the plan. It works for her because people will think she was involved and fear her...but she knows that he is off and happy. In this Daemon actually did a pretty good thing....except you know choking out some poor dude to use as Laenors firey body double

I love the easter egg of Mushroom (the court jester) being part of the band at the wedding feast in episode 5.

For those interested in the status of season 2 in regard to the writer's strike, George gave an update a few weeks ago on his "Not a Blog" (georgerrmartin.com/notablog) for both HOTD and the other Game of Thrones spin-off show (based on his Tales of Dunk & Egg series of novellas) that HBO is doing. "Many of you will be wondering, rightfully, about the impact of the strike on my own shows. The writer’s room on A KNIGHT OF THE SEVEN KINGDOMS: THE HEDGE KNIGHT has closed for the duration. Ira Parker and his incredible staff of young talents are on the picket lines. Across the ocean, the second season of HOUSE OF THE DRAGON started filming on April 11 and will continue in London and Wales. The scripts for the eight s2 episodes were all finished months ago, long before the strike began. Every episode has gone through four or five drafts and numerous rounds of revisions, to address HBO notes, my notes, budget concerns, etc. There will be no further revisions. The writers have done their jobs; the rest is in the hands of the directors, cast, and crew… and of course the dragons." - GRRM (He also did another lengthy post giving an impassioned defense of the strike that I highly recommend. Specifically, it really breaks down the importance of the writer's room as it existed for him back in the 80s.) --- Francesca Orsi (HBO's Head of Drama Series and Films) also did an interview with Deadline recently where she said: “If there is anything that needs to be rewritten or reshot, we’ll handle that after the strike, and we’ll put the resources behind revising what we need to do and reshooting what we need to do if we’ve made any mistakes along the way.” - Orsi I think HBO knows that Game of Thrones is their biggest franchise. And that they won't be able to get away with messing it up.

The fun thing about this twist in the show is that the readers of the Fire & Blood-book were also surprised. That book is the base of this show and is a compilation of two biased unrealable narrators, a court jester and a historian that favors the Alicent-side of the conflict. Laenor's death is described in the book but in that world nobody found out that he was actually alive and so the historians were not able to find out about it when they were writing all of this history about the Greens VS Blacks down hunderds of years later. Both the narrators live closer to the time the original show takes place. The makers of the show are able to deviate from the book and add details or change or leave out things, because some things get lost to history in real life or get discovered in the far future to be entirely different, because a historian was biased or the oral history was changed every time it was being passed down through court jesters or other people who are close to the court and royal people.
