The Rings of Power 1x8 Uncut Reaction!

I think the giveway was there, but at least for me, it didn't register early on. Halbrand was dubbed, "The King of the Southlands", and since the Southlands became Mordor, then Halbrand was naturally going to be "King of Mordor", i.e. Sauron

Oscar Romero

Incredible finale. I'm glad I decided to put off finishing the season until the season had finished. Being able to watch so many of the episodes in a row was so satisfying.

Jake Samuels

Damn elvish names! lol

David Lonewolf Wright

You mean Celebrimbor. Celeborn is still missing, presumed dead by Galadriel.

Remus

In the Unfinished Tales there's a quote that states that Gandalf, whose Maiar name was Olorin, may have visited Middle Earth already and become acquainted with some of its peoples. So while Gandalf does come in the Third Age along with Radagast and Saruman, there's nothing to say he couldn't have come during the Second Age as well, for a different purpose. So I believe he is Gandalf/Olorin.

When they did the initial reveal of The Stranger as Sauron at the beginning, I jumped out of my chair and screamed, "NO!" So very glad it was a misdirect.

It makes sense that it will take that long these seasons are like 9 hour movies. I think people need to take a step back and realize something. The entire LOTR trilogy cinematic version is about 9 and a half hours long. This season of ROP is 9 hours 17 minutes. The movies took like 8 years to make, and we are complaining that we are getting similar length over 1 or 2 years? Like we should be greatful.

Thurrak

The Wizards are Maiar, same as Sauron, same as the Balrogs, but Istar is just another name for the Wizards, meaning wise one

Josh Hiner

Thank your for doing live reactions for this. I couldn't tolerate the negativity any longer and you three are so much more positive!

Brandi Philipps

Also this episode was amazing. I loved this series so much. It was epic! Such a good conclusion!

Roman Penna

The Istar are angels or the Middle-Earth version, that were sent to help humanity against Sauron. Also the three elven rings were made outside the influence of Sauron, he could never influence them and the One Ring didn't have power over them. Because he wasn't involved in their creation. They were made for preservation and healing instead of power. That's why Galadrial says there has to be three and only for the elves, so they can be sure that Sauron doesn't have any influence.

Roman Penna

Halbrand said "You fought against your enemy. And mine." Does that mean he is not entirely ruling over the orcs? He has to take control off from Adar or something?

Purevsuren Chimeddorj

They are Maiars. Istaris are only 5.

Great Theory

read a great theory online that maybe they are going for Gandalf the blue. basically, we know from Tolkien that Gandalf arrives in middle-earth in the 3rd age, but what if he came before but not as Gandalf the grey but as Gandalf the Blue? and failed on his first trip, died, and then returned to Middle-earth in the 3rd age as Gandalf the grey. although Tolkien names the two blue wizards, maybe the show would made that small change so it would fit Gandalf in their story. anyway, that makes sense in my book, but excited to see whatever ends up with the stranger's identity

Bar Shamrich

The Stranger, my money is on one of the blue wizards

Michael Pallada

That will be a long wait, but maybe we underestimate the huge effort they put in this show and we still have a pandemic. In the end: it's better they take all the time they need to make the show spectacular as instead rushing it in any way. I think after this phantastic first season, which should actually "only" lay the foundation, the expectations and the stakes for 2nd season are even higher.

Robert von Heeren

Here’s a portion of the quote and some news outlets reported it as well. “The good news: The Rings of Power Season 2 is coming. The bad news: There's currently no premiere date set and it might be a long, long time until we get Season 2. Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter in October 2022, co-showrunner Patrick McKay said that he expects to be working on Season 2 for "another couple years," which means an optimistic guess on when The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2 will hit Prime Video based on McKay's own words is the second half of 2024.” So yeah, second half 2024 at the earliest , so 2025 at the latest

Aisha Kenya

Whaaat really? Oh no. I had so much fun with this one, I'd love to have the next right now. Well, more time to catch up on ALL the reading.

Thoronris

Other than some pacing issues I really enjoyed this series overall. I would have liked for the Sauron reveal to have been someone other than Halbrand, but it made sense in the end. Sadly the creators said we wouldn’t be getting S2 until 2024-2025, which is a huge bummer

Aisha Kenya

The initial calling out of The Stranger to being Sauron hurt, but once I saw Halbrand talking to Celeborn, knowing he was manipulated by Sauron, I figured it out. I really think The Stranger is going to be Gandalf as Nori's actions towards him gave him his affinity and admiration for halflings. I got through the first watch on my own okay, but that second time with you guys, that good bye scene between Nori and Poppy got me.

David Lonewolf Wright

I was so sure that Halbrand was going to be one of the men who eventually become a Nazgul. Whoops.

Ryan Noakes

That was such a great finale... I had exactly the same reaction as Augustine when Halbrand said "Call it... a gift" to Celebrimbor... "HE'S SAURON!!!". And I agree that the Stranger didn't quote a line from Gandalf accidentally. I went from not being interested in this show so being a big fan.

Tim Arnold

I was really enjoying the show up to now. Sure there some small things here or there that bothered me, but nothing so bad to turn me against the show. This episode though just did not do it for me. I found myself, at least on the initial viewing with so many odd questions, and there were many moments that took me out of the show completely. Maybe I need more time to digest all this, maybe my opinions will shift on subsequent watches but I was ultimately a bit disappointed. Overall I still enjoy the show and I'm curious to see where they go in the future, especially with characters like Isildur and Celeborn, and also how they show the others rings being given to the humans and dwarves. Wish the next season was here already.

LilFlane2001

I wish we could see the Galadriel x Halbrand ship explored more, they've had good chemistry from the start, but this episode - holy cow, the fanfictions are writing itself at this point. Stupid sexy Halbrand. I also love how they showed that once Sauron whispers into your ears, you are lost, even when you are a wise elf. When reading the Silmarillion and other tales, it was always about Morgoth and Sauron whispering in the dark and mind controlling people, and here, we see it in live action. So well done.

Thoronris

In later writings, Tolkien indicated that the two Blue wizards came to middle earth first, in the second age, and fuvked off to the east.

Terrafan

I'm bawling my eyes out guys🥲, what we've just seen here is a gift.. now is the time to discover the lore of all of this so when S2 comes around, its all in the loop and have some sense of the characters' bearings and the direction leading up to the OG trilogy or maybe even the hobbit trilogy as well. Better yet, Imma listen, watch & subscribe to Nerd of the Rings as recommended by Tar-Agustin!👍🏻

Nurhadi Roshaimi

Also, I expect the 'Stranger' to be Sauruman. The first to arrive, this is Way before his fall... Until then he was the wisest wizard and leader of the Istari. Wonderfully tragic.

Can't wait to watch along later tonight. This episode gave me some very vocal reactions last night when it dropped. The reveals were well earned and the slow burn of this show is really working well on me. I wish we could have seen a couple of other storylines, but they were pretty well wrapped up in the previous episode so I get it. Now I guess it's back into my books and rewatching PJs movies and this first season for the next two years or so until season 2 releases.

Chris Williamson

Great episode!

Chris Hoke

Loved loved this last episode!!!! I watched it at least three times; especially certain parts! I agree! I didn’t want it to end. Looking forward to the next season when it comes out!

Maura Lee

"They were all of them, deceived." Damn. Long game well, well played. Fansatstic. #ChefsKiss

Tamlaeyn

Such a good episode - didn’t want it to end!
