Intro to the Everyday Workers: The world of Fortuna isn’t all about flashy Escape Artists. The mundane intersects with magic, where karma-powered technology and knowledge are used for everyday tasks. These individuals may not use karmastry in grand ways, but they are the heart of what keeps Fortuna functioning. While not everyone would consider them heroes, they are the ones who keep the world turning — and that makes them heroes to us. Use these generalized characters as NPCs in your Flux Fantasy game or enhance them with your own ideas to make them into main characters.

Nora grew up in the Fortuna rainforest area of Ad Astra, but later moved to Icarus City, where she attended trade school for Escape Artists. In her free time, while going to school, she volunteered at the local fire department. She fell in love with the job and left school to pursue firefighting full-time. Using what she learned in school, along with moderate karmastry, she aids in battling fires. Nora is extremely strong and can knock down a door with a single kick. She has a Dalmatian dog named, of course, Spot.

Cyrus has worked for as long as he can remember at Ursa Major Construction Co., a state-funded company that often helps repair roads or damage caused by wild karmastry or the nearby Antares rupture. Like many of his coworkers, he realized that having a bit of extra muscle could help move up the chain of command, so he acquired sigils that enhanced his physical strength. Now a manager, he dreams of opening his own company and uses his sigils less often than he did before.

Jamie has always battled her OCD, which causes her to be extremely neat and sometimes paranoid about her actions. She knew she wanted to become a doctor and chose a path in bio karmastry to achieve that goal. Despite her fear of germs, she graduated with high marks and became a doctor in Ganymede City, specializing in karmastry-assisted surgeries involving the heart and brain. To help her relax, she listens to music, often doing so while performing procedures.

About:

John Paul once dreamed of becoming a great Escape Artist. However, as he grew older, he realized how much work it would take and, over time, he did less and less of it — eventually growing to hate it. Instead, he discovered a knack for numbers, went to trade school in Andromeda, and became an accountant. He still loves flux destinies and karmastry movies but enjoys his accounting job helping Dream Workshops operate and manage their finances. Every once in a while, he practices with a small bracelet torus, but never seriously.

Andor teaches English at a middle school in Orion City, where he was born and raised. He is loved by his students and trusted by many in his community. It was a surprise when he was approached by the NKA to help find potential students for their Junior Agents program. They paid well, and Andor had a talent for reading students who would be a good fit. His mundane teaching job often contradicts his long nights spent poring over student data, looking for the next special agent. Little does he know, he himself is being considered for a position among their ranks.
