My new feral tiefling Blood Hunter character for D&D campaign ✨ And apparently I live in the past 😂
Sha'ar was trained and taught to be the next leader of one of the most vile underground cults in Faerun. She lived for the it, devoted and brainwashed. Human sacrifice was a daily bread, torture and self mutilation ways to reach fiendish approbation.
Her life was about to change when in one of the cages she spotted a new sacrifice - pale looking young man who seemed to be at peace with his destiny. No crying, no begging. She could swear she saw a faint smile on his face while he was drawing something in the mud he was sitting on. Usually it took just few days to bring people to the edge of fear, where they were most desirable for the fiends. But this man just... waited.
Out of curiosity she asked him about his light demeanor, genuinely intrigued by the behaviour she never seen before. Quickly she discovered that he's just at peace with his fate and that the drawings on the mud are some inventions he would love to create.
She keep on coming back every now and then fueled by the childlike curiosity that was always trampled by other members of the cult. One day she gave him back some tools of his, and he began to build small objects. Some made sounds she never heard before, some looked like creatures she never seen. At some point she took some of them with her, as she found that sounds of the trees and oceans made her fall asleep quicker... Inventor's trinkets pacified her in the moments of great pain too. Interested in their origin, she began to ask many question that could only be solved by going up into the surface.
Collar and a chain were enough to make sure he didn't escape, and so, one day sneakily she got out to see the world outside for the first time. But with every answer more questions rose up. Soon she began to sneak out almost every day with the man she got to know as Vladimir Deacon.
On one of the escapades they made she fell asleep, exhausted by the taxing day of training and torture... But when she woke up with a coat covering her, Vlad was still there, preparing a meal. Why didn't he run or kill her?
During the few weeks of knowing each other he made her doubt the cause of staying underground, she wanted to get out and see more... Her inner pure curiosity was something that gave him a lot of joy, something that reminded him of himself when he was a kid. He saw an opportunity to save her from the fate that would kill this one pure thing she still had left in her.
With each passing day Sha'ar was realizing that soon Vladimir will have to be sacrificed. Vladimir who showed her things she never thought existed. And as much as devoted she was... killing him was not an option.
One night she packed up and snatched him out of his cell, already committed to run and never come back.
