Obsession trip

Recently I really wanted to create something trippy, inspired by Filip's experiences with drugs and trips that didn't go as good as planned. I'm not a drug user myself but i do a ton of research about it since I'm just really fascinated with chemistry of human mind, and how easily it can be altered. Things that come up time and time again in the stories I'm listening to are eyes and different perception of  movement alongside different approach to your own body. Shapes in move tend to multiply, eyes can be seen in the least expected places, body feels more sensitive to touch. Combine this with my love for Eldrazi from MtG and Lovekraftian monsters and I'm good to go ♥

 I started by thumbnailing some ideas. I knew i wanted my boy to have multiple arms and eyes. I tried to keep in mind that later on i would like to put this drawing on a holographic sticker to boost up the level of trippiness. So in the end I ended up with the first idea which had the biggest amount of eyes exposed to the viewer, and that later on will be filled with holographic foil.

 Unfortunately the day I was creating this piece, I had a very tough time. I felt overworked and very stressed out by my deadlines, so my plans of recording the whole process went to trash. I kept on making many mistakes in the coloring, while I was still trying to figure it out.

The only thing that was usable later on from the video I made was the part when i was transferring traditional sketch into the digital.  (You can watch it by clicking the link)

Thanks to destressing later on that day I was able to work on this piece in the evening, where suddenly everything felt easier and more natural with every passing hour.
The next day I worked on the eyes and finished the piece ♥

I'll be updating you guys on the progress of putting holographic stickers into my etsy store.
There will be also one poster (50x75cm) available the same day. Please remember to use code PATREONFAM15 to get 15% off at the checkout.

On top of that I'll be sending non-holographic stickers of this piece this month to the highest tier Patrons~

Attachments contain a wip psd file and the end results ♥

It is deeply scary, though at the same time i'm not surprised for the brain to act this way. If it can depend on the outside source and cut off some of the work it had to usually do itself, it will use less energy. Though it will make itself very dependant on it. It's emotional reactions would be so primal of the source is no longer there... i'm curious if there is this primal need inside of us (but surpressed) if we lack the natural means of producing our own chemicals. Addiction to the outside source will look different than a natural craving of self-made substances. Ah it's all so fascinating!

Jesus, this is stunning. Amazing job. I briefly studied drugs in the brain for a semester in college - one of the things that I found the most terrifying is that the most addictive drugs mimic the natural neurochemicals found in our body, but the shape is imperfect. When a person uses, those chemicals flood our brains and start binding to neuroreceptors, which lead to a desired effect (keep our synapses flooded with serotonin, dopamine, etc.). The receptors bind to them because they look so similar to our natural chemicals that we produce. But in the process, they get corrupted to fit the shape of the invaders, which makes them less capable of accepting our natural neurochemicals. This is part of why drugs become so addicting, our brains become corrupted on a microscopic level, and it’s very hard to bounce back from that. I found that so terrifying. ; o;
