An ancient threat, long buried deep in the ground,has been unearthed. Perhaps the expansion efforts of a fledgling empire have now recently been interrupted. Perhaps an independent archeologist's guild has found more than they bargained for. Perhaps pirates, looking to bury their hordes of treasure, found an old evil instead. Regardless of the circumstances, the monstrosity is the same — rorelocks: more advanced, more threatening variations of their taxonomic relations. Spawned and festered by fear itself, the rorelocks are able to create hybrid thralls of their telepathically-tortured victims which they use to spread further fear and suffering in order to sustain their own growth. Unable to permanently kill them, an ancient civilization locked them away to prevent their spread. Their warnings of danger, meant to stand the test of time, went unheeded.
