Anti-Americanism, whiteness and colonialism: a discourse

hello all! special content for my patrons; this is an edited vod from my previous livestream, of a segment i decided to paywall because i sense it'd be a bit controversial (i go over some leftist content creator beef, for one) and i wanted to keep it among folks i could trust to conduct the convo with respect. what are your thoughts? when can anti-american sentiment become reactionary? what aspects of colonialism go unnoticed in 2025, especially by well-meaning white folks?

Anti-Americanism, whiteness and colonialism: a discourse

Comments

Trash discourse fairly quickly became a figure I looked up to, because of their views on activism, queerness, anti-puritism. So I was pretty aware watching this last video I was probably going to be unable to be truly critical towards their content by myself, specially since I don't know the creators they mentioned. That is to say the YouTube post totally worked on me and I just joined Patreon for this video.

Excited to watch this when I get off work! 🤗

Something that irritates me is how white people think, "racism? Nahhhhhhh that's not the issue." Even though seemingly all the global north countries are white, all indigenous folks are non-white, and any expensive regions within the global south are going to be proliferated by white people 🙄

We contain both oppressor and the oppressed within us. What a profound statement! To replace both with humanity, I wonder how we will do that? As the book said, to be a man is to be an oppressor. To be a man is to dominate. We've gotta radically rethink about how to be human, damn.

That’s the fun part. Kavernacle never said “nebula elite” he said “nebula leftists”. “Elite” was added by trash.

Trash frankly made a lazy video seemingly motivated by wanting contrapoints-senpai to notice them and nebula to invite them on. And at least according to the most used “source” Persephone, she emailed a ton of other creators including kat Blaque and communist fashion creator trying to get them to pick up her nothing burger of a pretentious blog on bad empanada that is impossible to read on a public computer for multiple reasons and seemingly trash was the only one who listened to her. The title alone as a statement is absolutely legit…the problem is they backed it with NOTHING of substance (and their citation suck ass)

I’m so over leftist critiques. Many are valid like I said the Hassan convo was needed esp since I have been a casual Hassan watcher and the algo really pushes him for me. But it’s so patronizing when people complain about the US left when there are so many people fighting for liberation often who are in underground movements (like labor organizing). Ty Elliot for a grounded take. Great video, thanks for sharing here cus I missed it live.

I work as a data worker for a major tech company. There are folks in Africa doing my job for less than 2 dollars a day. It’s not just data workers being exploited by major tech companies, but also the people in power in Africa (and global south more generally)!who allow those data centers to be opened in the first place. I’m so glad you provided analysis on this specific trash discourse video. It popped on my yt front page (they have a decent video about the criminalization of testosterone, which I have reported on… but sadly was not cited) I stopped watching a few minutes in. I used to be a reporter on the far right, so I was drawn to this video but it really fell flat in ways I couldn’t articulate. Iirc this video was mentioned in or trash cited revolutionaryth0t’s similiar video on Marxist chauvinism which I suppose was more meatier but again, it’s really demoralizing when content creators are making lazy generalizations about “the Left” when they are not embedded in organizing offline. Certainly there are many critiques to be had, I think yours of Hassan was fantastic. (Only 21:23 mins in.)

The kavernacle saying "the nebula elite" = chapel roan saying "both sides are bad" = using words with their direct meaning but the words have been used by others as dog whistle words before, so people feel the ick without engaging with the intension. It's unfortunate :-/

I do, of course, recognize that probably no one else in the world has benefitted more from America than Canada. We scoff at them down there being rapacious dipshits but we're JUST as bad. The only reason we haven't slid just as far is because we got used to a Parliamentary system that allows for more than 2 parties to go back and forth forever, although it's not like a third part has been particularly relevant ever, except for maybe the Bloc but their sphere of influence stops at the Quebec borders. Maybe it helps New Brunswick a little idk who do you think I am, that dipshit JJ McCullough? So we're pretty fucking hypocritical to lambast the US. But my point is that we haven't totally crumbled all our checks and balances that keep authoritarians out of the hot seat, but that's mostly a lucky roll of the dice on governmental organization. We're just as dogshit when it comes to corporate greed, we're just smaller and the Americans are all really really big so half of our shit is just owned by you directly or owned by some multinational conglomerate that you're at least a part of. Elbows Up my ass. Anyways. Canada stinks too, just slightly more subtly. To which I will say that we DID technically steal the idea for the Residential Schools from America, just like how Germany stole the idea for concentration camps. So we're... the same as the Nazis for just copying America's evil class homework.

As a Canadian and extremely harsh critic of American Exceptionalism, American imperialism, the American founding myth, American neoliberal capitalism, I've been called an "American Diabolist" before, which I don't even really deny? In my spicier moments I'll often say that the American Revolution is one of the worst things to happen in the history of the world, but that's mostly just because that was the Black Swan event that most directly gets us to Right Now and Right Now, because of all the long metastasized appendages of American oligarchic hegemony are so obviously fucking rotten and killing all of us with some quickness, yeah, cut that shit out at the root. It's not like England was better, or anything, but if there had been a different revolution at some other point somewhere else led by people that weren't the self-selected land+people-owning bourgeois who just didn't want to pay taxes to their dads then maybe we'd have ended up somewhere else. That said, I don't think anyone BUT an American can really solve things right now? There is perhaps something to the adage that steel sharpens steel. That weapons forged in fire are stronger. To thrive and care and try to help despite being products of one of the most toxic, repulsive, exclusionary and antihuman countries in history at this point, that's like transcendent level powerful to see. America is "the worst country" but its heroes are some of the strongest and brightest. So there's hope. But god damn are you all up against a fuckin' wall there.
