I'd always wondered about China in relation to environmental and international policy. Continually shocked as Ajay says that they are mostly "Reasonable" as a government, at least in seeing climate politics as important rather than a lifestyle choice. Like where I live most people are so weirdly disconnected from politics, that seeing someone engage with and acknowledge political things and to treat them with respect feels so refreshing. It feels like waking from a dream everyone keeps telling you incessantly is reality.

I've felt it a lot more recently, quietly censoring my thoughts and distrusting the very places I engage in. I've never heard it articulated so clearly as in this discussion. I feel displeased with many online news outlets and social spaces, too, such as Discord or Bluesky, because despite the discussions that come up there, it feels as if action is something that the people in my network and I never pursue. Conversations, especially online, being Action has been long used as an excuse IMO, it has some value, but just talk does little on its own, and I feel like many people are stuck in that. Things are happening ALL the time, but it's so common to hear "there's nothing happening," or even better- "there's nothing we can do," and just like that, the Mario thwomp trap just drops in front of me and I've got nothing to give. Y'all are the type of insightful people I aspire to be like, tired of feeling stuck in a static trap of despair
