Animal Rescue Pupdates!

As I'm sure many of you know, I've been doing a lot of animal rescue work lately. This month, I fostered 11 different dogs, and most were at the same time! I still have 6 dogs in my house, and 7 in my care.

But I have big news! 5 of my foster puppies were adopted! 5 new families, thrilled to have their life changed. I found 2 of the adopters myself, and couldn't be any more pleased with my choice.

Rusty's new mom works from home (in management), and lives across the street from the ocean. His adoption date was on his adopters' 5 year anniversary! Between picking him out, and taking him home (2 weeks), she booked him a vet appointment (although he was released UTD), read 2 puppy books, and took 2 weeks of online obedience classes. She messages me about his progress often: he's doing great with housebreaking!!

Arya's new mom is an aerospace engineer, similarly to Rusty's adopter, she bought Arya tons of dog-puzzles, toys, enrichment, and training tools the day she picked her out. In the 2 weeks leading up to her official adoption, they made her an instagram and found a trainer. Her instagram is @luna_the_floof if you'd like to continue to watch her grow! Both adopters are first-time dog moms, and doing everything right. They're looking to host littermate meetups a couple of times a year (which, I'd be attending, of course!)

Now for the bad news (CW- suicide):

Luna's Siberian Husky Rescue (the rescue I foster and volunteer for) just suffered a major tragedy. One of our rescue founders was found dead by our rescue coordinator. This happened in the middle of the month, but wanted to wait until the news was public before bringing it up with those of you here. Suicide rates among animal rescue workers are 3x higher than that of the general population. He was a silent, but necessary and strong part of Lunas. He shared 3 children with our other rescue founder, and when news broke to the kids, one attempted suicide and was hospitalized. Not only are they dealing with the tragedies of losing a partner, staff member, father, and close friend, but we also have way too many dogs on our hands, including his personal pets that he left behind.

I promised myself I was done with puppies after my last litter (as they've caused thousands of dollars of damage to the house I'm renting), but when I heard the news, I had to help. There were too many dogs on site, less hands to care for them, and the people that'd typically take over in an emergency were grieving. So now I have 3 massive malamute mixes! I've also been donating much of my time tying up loose ends for them, by reviewing adoption applications, and doing reference checks.

On a happier note, my Korean Dog Meat foster was adopted! She's still at my house, but Save Korean Dogs is currently arranging a flight out east for her. I'll likely be the flight volunteer traveling with her, as I know her the best, and she has a bite history.

Hopefully, Bunny (the mother to my foster litter) will be approved for spay next week.

Images are of 2 of the adopters, and the 3 new puppies I took on.

Thank you ❤️ I know 💔 good reminder to check in with friends that have anxiety. He hid his pain away, no one expected that to happen. But the silver lining: it’s shown how strong our rescue is, coming together during this time. So many people care. I wasn’t even there when it happened and people from around Southern California have been wishing me well.

That's so sad about the rescue founder. I'm sure that all the COVID stuff going on now did not help his mental state. I wish that more was being done to help people psychologically especially during this time. I'm so happy to hear the good news about your furry friends though! That's so great that you have been able to help bring happiness to these dogs and people.

Me too; we have another adopter coming over tomorrow to meet the puppies, so hopefully that works out. He just adopted one of our adults as well

I'm glad the dogs are finding good homes. It's terrible that one of the founders died and everything that followed.

Carl
