Man the portrayal of cyberpsychosis is terrifying

RoZiiii

Omg I would kill for a lets play series

RoZiiii

But one thing that was always consistent from the jump was the excellent world, themes and character work.

Vali Sippola

Completely agree. Nowadays is honesty the perfect time to get into it.

It had a really rough launch, bug ridden, failed promises, etc. But 3 years and many great patches, changes, and a new DLC later, it's honestly fantastic. The first big resurgence was when the anime came out, which was so popular that the player count for the game skyrocketed. They also released a decent sized update at the same time to capitalize on the new popularity. I played when it came out and never got around to finishing it, but the DLC came out a couple weeks ago so I decided to go back and loved every minute of it. I highly recommend it, either a let's play or on your own time.

How did I miss this game. Maybe I can start a let's play series with this cause it sounds great

That adds extra depth to it, yeah. There's something inherently corruptive about having access to large gains or improvement or power without corresponding lessons that should come from the work of obtaining those things. Taking the drug analogy, it's access to positive feelings without any work or learning, it's an easy but empty reward and so it's easy to get lost in that hole. People who feel lost or hopeless are already more susceptible to that kind of trap.

Alex G

Great detail, thanks for pointing that out

Alex G

It’s soo nice seeing people that played the game here lol. To add more context Even with Cyberpsychosis info we get in the game, the public is still treating it just like the anime “they went mad because they couldn’t handle implants” Like, if they try and report their symptoms to someone to get help, the most likely result is they’ll get maxtac coming to finish the job.

Khalid

Just a little thing not related to this ep that everyone but me probably aleardy noticed, the yellow jacket that david is wearing is the jacket that his mother was wearing in the beginning before the tragedy. He is wearing jacket of his dead mum and holding a hand from his dead crew member maybe even we could say "father" in some way.

Marko

Was waiting for this episode, dropped everything to watch this reaction just amazing. This ep and anime should be considered as an art.

Marko

The thing about cyberpsyghosis is the whole it being caused by too many implants is very much an oversimplification. In the game there are a lot of missions where you track down cyberpsychos and there are text logs you can read that explain something that went really badly in their life that basically caused them to "break". Really cyberpsychosis is mostly mental health issues that we would diagnose nowadays. It's just the body dysmorphia of having all the implants and also the power that they give you turns it into a much more dangerous condition. You can start losing your sense of self and start thinking of yourself as a living weapon and go shoot up a shopping mall for example. So cyberpsychosis is as much a symptom of the technology of this world but also of the social and political landscape people have to live in that causes such problems in their minds.

This is the best episode in the show imo. The OST when the bad things happen... sad.

Lucy (and David) needed a bit of Levi speech. "I don't know if I should believe in me, or trust in my comrades." & "Make the decision that you will regret the least in the future". David said he trusted Lucy because he wants her to be strong and successful. In the case she succeeds, everyone'd be happy and she might be over her whatever fear. If you consider the risks, however, both of them would be better off just leaving there and then. It's the safer option. I hope I'm proven wrong.

Great episode and discussion. And honestly, hearing your discussions for this show so far, I cannot recommend the game enough. The show was made as a sort of companion to it. It’s like eating one small slice of like 10 jumbo pizzas. The world and themes are massively expanded upon, and the characters are truly exceptional. Like this show talks about a lot of different places and people/organizations, but it never dives into them because it’s only 10 episodes, but the game has all the time to expand on it’s themes and world. Basically, shows great, but the game is where it’s at, especially thematically and with its characters.

Vali Sippola

I've been really looking forward to this episode. Right after the new jjk episode too.

Rayn

This is my second favorite episode in the series! Right behind the final one

Sparker

Heartbreaking episode. Such a masterpiece in how it was directed. The tone and feeling of the entire episode just feels exactly how it should throughout and I feel uneasy every time I watch it.

Skyler Anderson

Wow

Alex G

@0:30 it’s the literal *end of the road* lol

Those last few minutes just hit hard… the music, the visuals, the voice acting… oof…
