Your timing with the release of Phantom Liberty is 👌

Tyler Owens

As someome who loved the game The attention to details in this show is just insane, everything you see from tech to places are 1:1 from the game Night City is good example for a city that looks beautiful to look, but you absolutely you don’t wanna live there at least not when you are poor

Khalid

Something about Sub that is hard for me is I'm on mobile a lot so subs are quite small especially when it does the stylized convos on the phone, text is hard to read.

Noah Hoorn

This.

Noah Hoorn

Dang I was really hoping for the dub, when there’s an amazing dub I’ll always vouch for it (even tho I generally prefer subs) and this is one of those cases.

NitrousOxide19

I definitely think you should stick to one or the other, having the same voice actors all the way through in any show helps you get invested in the characters. As you get more familiar with the character, you get more familiar with their way of speaking too.

Wolfy Fiorini

As most people are saying, I highly recommend the dub for this show, not because it's necessarily better or worse, but because it's the most authentic to the source material. Some background information on the show: The show is based on the video game, "Cyberpunk 2077", which is based on the tabletop RPG that was made by Mike Pondsmith in 1988. The game was made by CD Projekt RED, known for the Witcher games. The anime was made in collaboration with CD Project RED and Studio Trigger, and was mostly written by CD Project RED. Trigger stepped in and put the show together, meaning animation, storyboarding, direction, etc. The anime and game are fully canon to each other, and they even added a bunch of stuff from Edgerunners into the game, as well as an interaction with one of the characters. The biggest argument for dub is usually due to there being a lot of slang unique to Cyberpunk. Some examples being "choom" for buddy or friend, "preem" or "nova" for cool or sweet, and "eddies" for Eurodollars, their currency. While it's usually included in the subtitles, it quite literally doesn't translate to Japanese. Additionally, the world of Night City is very diverse, and both the game and anime features people speaking their native languages when you interact with them, something else lost when everything is in Japanese. Some game lore, Arasaka, the company who's school David is attending is headed by a Japanese family going back over 150 years, and is still headed by the same person that founded it. Cybernetics are wild I guess. Anyway, I think made my opinion abundantly clear. Regardless for whether or not you swap to dub, the sub is still good. The dub just fits the setting much more.

I usually prefer watching with subs, but the dub for this show is great imo. There's also lots of slang that doesn't come across in the sub, as someone who's played the game it's really throwing me off hearing people in this setting speak in Japanese lol. All that being said, I'm on board with whatever you pick. I think this show is fantastic, the city and the people in it feel so real. I can't wait to see your reaction to everything that happens, because we're just getting started! This is one of the few shows in recent history that I got really emotionally invested in, so I'm excited to see your take on it :)

Wolfy Fiorini

Agree, I have no idea how it beat all those other incredible shows, but it IS going to be a fun ride and I am glad Goodwin's reacting to it lol

Sunny

Full SUB please stick to it Its just better

Jasmine Tea Enjoyer

Lol the two Matthew's couldn't be more opposite

Jasmine Tea Enjoyer

Very Cool show. I would say its slightly over rated but still very much so worth watching just for the production quality alone. The voice acting (in sub, please stick to sub), the animation, the OST, and the world building is absolutely excellent. As well as the character designs. Lots of emotional moments packed into a short 10 episodes. I LOVE the music all around, from the OP to the tracks used in the series. Very excited for these reactions.

Jasmine Tea Enjoyer

Also a Dub person myself for this show, but I'm never gonna be upset at the chance of hearing Kenjiro Tsuda's wonderful perfect voice.

MisterRathrion

Strong 1st episode. I'm glad I haven't watched this myself. I'll enjoy this more here.

Arakis

Ok. I’d personally prefer all English, but go for whichever option you feel would be best. I worry with that way of doing it though, by end of episode 5 you’ll be very used to the JP dub and the EN dub will sound weird just cause it’s not what your used to

Dax

More likely 1-5 Japanese and 6-10 English? Not exactly sure gotta think about it

Alex G

How would that work? Alternating between episodes?

Dax

Full dub pls pls

Noah Hoorn

I'm thinking about doing half and half

Alex G

Thanks 😂

Alex G

I would, like many others here it seems, suggest the English dub for this show. A lot of the slang and cultural language is left out of the JP dub since it doesn’t really have a translation from English. On top of that, I just think the voices fit better in the English, but maybe that’s just cause I’m used to them.

Dax

"What's a bing-bong?" Haha, they're saying 貧乏 (Binbō), which means poor/broke.

tk

Chiming in to support this idea. Half-and-half would only confuse everyone including Alex lol. I prefer the dub as well, but I'm fine with either sub or dub tbh.

tk

that might be the worst option haha, just stick with japanese all the way or switch for the next ep or something like you did for demon slayer but in reverse lmao

RichiPete

Imo please commit to one I watched it in English dub even though I usually watch subbed. The accents really elevate it, but I personally don't care which version you watch.

Paint

Maybe I'll do half and half?

Alex G

It's so weird to see a community like this want an english dub haha. Usually purists would hate to see a filthy english cast, but I guess that goes to show how good the english is for this specifically. Especially for the dialects that come through and different languages. Regardless though excited you started

RichiPete

Probably more of an actual threat, realistically speaking

Alex G

I wonder if that level of rent-trap is really where we're headed towards

Anya Mcghee

it's not Skynet, but treacherous appliances we've got to look out for

iaani

That's a good idea, definitely first on the list would be the Fruits Basket movie cause I've been wanting to do that since forever

Alex G

Yeah don’t even try Promare on YouTube 😄 That’s why you’ll never see a reaction on there as it’s insanely strict. Is that something you would be interested in? Like a movie a month or something like that. I can think of quite a few which I would love to hear your thoughts on

Sacha

Movies are fine actually as long as it's on Patreon. YouTube is where it's way too difficult 😅

Alex G

Makes sense, familiarity goes a long way

Alex G

The very specific flavor of societal commentary we get from Cyberpunk (this show, the games, etc) is so compelling to me. This really bleak hypercapitalist future is so horrible to look at - seeing the Trauma Team reject David and his mom because they don't have the correct "package" and seeing his mom's ashes just plunk down out of some fucked up vending machine are just gut-wrenching. This show gets into some really interesting stuff and there'll be a lot for you to unpack, I'm excited to see what you have to say about it.

Aidan Pullen

Sub or dub both are great so whatever you wanna do is cool with me. Although beware of YouTube comments 😄 it’s really interesting to see where particular anime swings between sub or dub for people. If you watch FMAB in sub get ready to be torched in comments sections. If you watch Attack on Titan in dub get ready to be torched etc etc.. Also can I just say how much I love studio Trigger. Ever since I watched Promare I’ve been obsessed with their style and have watched soo many of their projects. They were the perfect fit for the Cyberpunk universe. This is going to be a wild ride and I know you are going to get ALOT out of it. Speaking of Promare now that’s a reaction I would LOOOOVE (I know you don’t really do films unless they are tied with a show you are watching but that would be soo fun)

Sacha

I dont mind sub or dub but for me I felt like the dub was more natural because I played the game beforehand and the slang worked better in english

RoZiiii

I have watched it a few times only on dub. so will watch it either way but kinda excited about the SUB as its a bit different than what I have seen. curious to hear some of the peoples voices,

Christo Badenhorst

Ooof was excited but not really for the sub tbh lol. Enjoy though!

Jake White

That explains the consistency I'm seeing on locations in terms of signs etc

Alex G

100% onboard with sub. Has some of my favorite VAs.

matthew bremmer

Yeah it's a terrible... Like you'd get a can of sprite. ...Great touch

Alex G

I love how every location in the show you can visit in the game, the attention to detail is soo good

RoZiiii

You do what you want with the dub or sub, but the way her ashes just slam down just feels so gross

Jak

I’ll respect that, but I’ll be brutally honestly this kills my interest in watching this reaction series significantly. And I hate saying that…

Matthew Richson

I opted to just default to the original audio

Alex G

Ugh… doesn’t feel right watching this in Japanese… not in this particular case anyway.
