2023-07-10 18:12:25 +0000 UTCThat's cute. Speaking of Gojo and the opening, now I'm wondering if him riding the monster is a DBZ reference
Alex G
2023-07-10 18:11:54 +0000 UTCThe Greymon/SkullGreymon/Koromon was a Digimon reference. I actually laughed out loud because I forgot how JJK pulls references from other anime/manga.

2023-07-10 06:27:58 +0000 UTCThanks for correcting me
Seth
2023-07-10 06:03:29 +0000 UTCooh yeah! I can't wait to see what happens and with this awesome animation no-less.

2023-07-09 11:33:22 +0000 UTCFor CSM episode 8* the series director of CSM was someone else. Gosso (Goshozono) is the JJK director and his best work is probably on Ranking of Kings episode 21; particularly the fight between Bojji and Bosse

2023-07-09 07:10:04 +0000 UTCI'm a manga reader and I cried in the course of the opening... and then Gojo said actually "Are you crying??" right after the opening.... That was hilarious and infuriating at the same time lol Let's not forget that Geto is also in season 1. And that comes after the movie in the timeline :3 So even if Gojo killed him at the end of the movie... one year later he's still there somehow.

2023-07-09 06:30:59 +0000 UTCSeriously... especially because of the movie, JJK 0. The last scene in that movie when Gojo calls him the only best friend he ever had... fuck.

2023-07-09 05:23:30 +0000 UTCIts heartbreaking seeing their friendship in the past and seeing them now :(

2023-07-09 04:34:37 +0000 UTCAhh, thanks. I should've just listened to that, but I think I should eventually watch the series so I didn't want to spoil myself. (For the record, and I mean this in the most loving way possible, the 'jujutsu' part is honestly less of a problem compared to calling it "kaizen," haha. "Kaizen" means "improvement" vs "kaisen" (with a hard /s/ as in 'senpai') where the characters mean something like "(r)evolving battle." (It's not a real word, but made up for the series) It's the 'sen' from "sensou," which means 'war')

2023-07-09 03:24:05 +0000 UTCPretty much, this is 11 years in the past and the movie is 1 year prior to the main events.

2023-07-09 03:19:10 +0000 UTCThat’s why I called it a three week break, because of the recaps.
Matthew Richson
2023-07-09 03:14:20 +0000 UTCIt was just a goof up on his part at the beginning of the reaction where he questioned his own pronunciation of it lol
Jake White
2023-07-09 03:06:18 +0000 UTCTo be fair, it’s just a 1 week break that’s coming after these first 5 episodes. Then they have 2 episodes scheduled for the weeks prior to the 31st that are supposed to be condensed recaps of both the movie and first season. So definitely not as important of episodes for sure, but regardless I’ll be curious to see how those episodes are handled exactly. Plus it’ll probably be a decent reminder for some people of characters/locations/events they might’ve forgotten in the past 2 years.

2023-07-09 02:32:44 +0000 UTCAlso this is the same director as from Chainsaw Man, personally I love the cinematic feel
Seth
2023-07-09 01:54:28 +0000 UTCI doubt he’ll leave CSM, considering he’s directing this season of JJK most people like him. I hope he directs all of it
Seth
2023-07-09 01:44:21 +0000 UTCWhat really surprised me this episode was seeing that Geto used to believe in protecting the weak while Gojo looked down on them. Crazy how their opinions completely swap later on, that makes Geto’s death more tragic
Seth
2023-07-09 01:42:42 +0000 UTCI haven't seen JJK, but just from seeing the description in my email inbox now I'm curious what the pronunciation problem is, 😅 🤔

2023-07-09 01:39:13 +0000 UTCReally love the op and ed of this season. It somehow manages to capture the essence of their friendship without even really having established it yet. There's something so youthful, fun and nostalgic about the visuals and song combined. At the same time, while its mostly playful snapshots of their life, it also feels heavily somber and bittersweet given the context of what we already know about Geto. And not to forget so many great symbolisms sprinkled throughout the ed, my favorite being Gojo, Shoko and Geto seemingly saying their goodbyes and walking back home in different directions- where we see Gojo and Shoko walking into the light while Geto is walking towards the shadows/darkness. Also the fish metaphor, wherein a drop in the pond(i.e an incident) changes a "fish" from light to dark. Also nice how Gojo pulled a Kageyama there and pressed two buttons on the vending machine simultaneously to avoid decision fatigue. Its fun seeing teenage Gojo be a cocky, immature, flippant and free spirited brat, which if we didn't know better, would be the perfect origin story of a villain, or maybe not, cause it's usually the one's with strong ideals who have the most to lose, so it'll be interesting to see that shift in Geto . But it's a bit sad to see Gojo going from "we're the strongest" in the past with Geto to now "I'm the strongest" in the present timeline. Highlights his loneliness and despair of being at the top. For some clarity- We've heard about Tengen in season 1 too, they're said to be protecting the barriers of the jujutsu school, and it's during the tournament arc when Hanami and Mahito invade the school. If you ever want to revisit it, Tengen is discussed in more detail during the first few minutes of ep20 (the baseball episode) So they're said to be immortal, but more like a tree, and here it's known that every 500 years they are to merge with a "vessel" (yikes) to prevent evolution(for if evolution happens it would lead to Tengen losing their will which would be very dangerous to the jujutsu society). Like you said, it really is so fragile. It's also interesting how working in this field ages you unless you're carefree and the strongest like Gojo. For context- we have Shoko, the same age as Gojo with bags under her eyes and constantly tired. Nanami, a year younger, but looks like a 35 year old over-working dad and our poor guy Ijichi who's two years younger, and looks the most run down. The "less powerful" you are the more worn down you get due to stress and constantly fighting for your life, which isn't surprising and I quite like that visual touch. Meanwhile, Gojo looking like he's fresh out of his monthly spa appointment lol. Or maybe I'm just wrong and like someone mentioned they've aged proportionally to the time spent with Gojo. That makes total sense too!! Also thought I'd share the funny little note Gege Akutami(the mangaka) shared after the premiere of episode 1 https://www.reddit.com/r/JuJutsuKaisen/comments/14tbwr3/akutami_geges_comment_scribble_for_jujutsu_kaisen/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=1

2023-07-09 01:34:52 +0000 UTCI'd love to have a Gojo / Itadori type in my life, but yeah, it would probably get old fast. lol
Merfhew
2023-07-09 00:29:53 +0000 UTCI mean if you look at Shoko and Nanami you realise what knowing Gojo for a long time does to someone haha
bondbond53
2023-07-09 00:26:30 +0000 UTCIt’s the rumor, because a lot of Japanese fans were displeased with the more cinematic approach to the adaptation of the first season.
Matthew Richson
2023-07-09 00:17:57 +0000 UTCWell, she does seem a bit sunnier (and I noticed fewer sleeping bags under her eyes), but she also called Gojo and Geto trash. lmao
Merfhew
2023-07-09 00:13:26 +0000 UTCthis is my best recollection so if I’m wrong then someone feel free to correct me in the replies, but just for future reference: This first arc of season 2 takes place around 2006 The movie takes place in 2017 And the first season takes place in 2018-19 Just for a decent mind map of when everything is occurring
Jake White
2023-07-09 00:11:58 +0000 UTCThank! Didn't recognize her without her lab coat. Also she seems... Sunnier?
Alex G
2023-07-09 00:10:37 +0000 UTCWait, CSM might be getting a new director for S2?
Merfhew
2023-07-09 00:07:54 +0000 UTCAnd the same might be happening to CSM season 2 just a heads up.
Matthew Richson
2023-07-09 00:06:10 +0000 UTCShoko is the doctor in jujutsu high (in the present time). She was the one asked by Gojo to dissect Yuji's body when he "died" in episode 5. And yes, Fushiguro is Megumi's last name. I can't wait for you to meet this person :D
Kei
2023-07-09 00:04:34 +0000 UTCHonestly, the issue for me is probably less about the art style and more about my desire for consistency between seasons. If this was how JJK looked in the first season, I probably wouldn't have had any issues right now... but that's a me problem. Well, I'd still have some minor nitpicking (mostly in the mansion), but nothing in life is perfect. Like I said before, the art isn't bad... it's just not my cup of tea. I'm definitely in the minority about visuals, but I'm happy to see how excited it makes everyone else! Can't wait for the next episode!!
Merfhew
2023-07-09 00:02:50 +0000 UTCI know that this is personal preference but I think the new art style is a big upgrade, as well as the compositing and backgrounds. Also the more simplified art style in some areas allows for better and more fluid animation. All in all as much as I loved S2, I think this new art direction elevates JJK from your typical shonen even more
bondbond53
2023-07-08 23:51:12 +0000 UTCthe s1 director left the studio and no it doesnt normally happen
Jasmine Tea Enjoyer
2023-07-08 23:49:45 +0000 UTCI'm not a huge fan of this art style, but that doesn't mean it's bad. I do wonder why S2 got a new director though. Does that normally happen?
Merfhew
2023-07-08 23:44:27 +0000 UTCseeing baby gojo and geto's relationship animated has and will continue to make me curl up in a ball and cry. every single visual and depiction of them through symbolic imagery is just so carefully placed you can really tell the jjk team loves these characters
Mima
2023-07-08 23:42:10 +0000 UTCGojo is definitely a loose cannon in the present, but young Gojo seems more arrogant, wild, and irresponsible than he is later (if that was possible). He seemed to lean on Geto to be the voice of reason in the past.
Chris Sharpe
2023-07-08 23:38:50 +0000 UTCWE ARE SO BACK This new artsyle is incredible, gives me lots of Cowboy Bepop vibes. Kino is back on the menu boys.
Jasmine Tea Enjoyer
2023-07-08 23:37:36 +0000 UTCYou are so so right about Geto. He means good by saying that the strong must protect the weak but he inadvertently places people in a hierarchy and you can easily see how it later evolved into his ideals presented in JJK 0
bondbond53
2023-07-08 23:17:28 +0000 UTCGot it, thanks for the info!
Alex G
2023-07-08 23:13:40 +0000 UTCIts “THE big one” depending on how the manga ends this season might end up adapting the 2 best arcs in the series im super hyped
Rice
2023-07-08 23:10:43 +0000 UTCSo for the future, this arc is only 5 episodes and it’s a flashback as you can see. The last episode for it will be on August 5th and then the anime will be on break for three weeks(returning on the 31st) to prepare for the arc that will make up the remaining 18 episodes of the season. That one will take us back to the present. It’s a big one.
