2023-03-14 01:38:51 +0000 UTCI like how she keeps trying to present herself as cold and calculating when she still so obviously is a Hero at heart. Like, letting Overhaul out and hauling him along. She keeps saying it's just coz he might be useful, but she learned that only afterwards. Or actually explaining herself to Deku. She'd probably say she was just trying to trip him up, but I think she wanted at least one person to know her truth. What do you make of Deku's quirks, now we've seen most of them? I like that, while individually they really don't seem that impressive, combined and carefully cultivated they are a force to be reckoned with, that's not easy to pull off.

2023-03-14 00:58:02 +0000 UTCOr maybe, all shades of grey? I don't think she has a problem with moral ambiguity as a concept. It's the "false white" (what she calls 'haribote' / papier-mache), the fake veneer of moral purity that got to her most, I think.

She says that Deku has been "dyed into the colors of a papier-mâché society," (she calls it a "sham" in English here, and that's an accurate translation, but it just doesn't have the added bonus of the pun on papier-mâché). To build on what Muchymozzarella was saying, in Japanese, she says at least a world ruled by All for One would be more "transparent" ('sundeiru' 澄んでいる). Not "better," but at least more transparent.

2023-03-13 18:54:57 +0000 UTCIf I remember correctly you spent some time in China so I'm not sure if you were able to pick up any meaning from the quirk Fa Jin but it's apparently a chinese martial arts technique in real life that's discussed as being able to store energy and bring out your maximum output of impact in a single move. Kinda cool how they applied that into a quirk letting deku store kinetic energy. Also... MANCHESTERRRRR SMASSHHHH. Last time we saw that move was when deku first pulled out 20% and did it against Overhaul. I just love how much depth they've decided to give the hero society. When reading the manga I got chills when Nagant reached her hands out to the children and just saw all of the blood she had on her hands. Such a tragic result of society but she's one of my fav villains.

I just now noticed that her hand covered in blood, which she was afraid to reach out with, was still grabbed by a young boy who was raised in this safe world, who still acknowledges the wrongs done behind the scenes. That's symbolism for you.

What she doesn't realise is that AFO kept his power through constant and consistent lies, much in the way she had to do for the Commission anyway.

It's unclear whether he was shady, but it's outright stated he's been coasting on reputation alone to remain a Top 10 hero, and retires as soon as he's expected to be a true hero again.

2023-03-13 17:20:01 +0000 UTCTo explain for those who don’t understand: Deku has a new move called “faux 100%” which makes him temporarily go as fast as full power OFA by combining Fa Jin and 45% OFA but that isn’t enough to be as fast as 100% so he has to use Black Whip to fling himself so combine that with 45% OFA and Fa Jin and he’ll temporarily be as fast as 100% OFA thus “Faux 100%”

2023-03-13 17:14:08 +0000 UTCSo Horikoshi wanted to write a lot more for Lady Nagant’s backstory via a spin-off novel or something, but he didn’t have the time nor the energy. He supplied some additional details in a volume 32 extra. The chairwoman of the HPSC(Hawks’ boss) didn’t approve of her predecessors methods of playing fast and loose with people’s lives. It’s why she didn’t have Nagant executed. Instead in order to ensure that the information would never leak, she had her thrown in Tartarus. And subsequently focused on training Hawks as her better replacement.
