2022-11-17 20:32:20 +0000 UTCI was wondering about the dynamic between Himeno and Aki because in the episode where we first see her, Aki is giving out the orders and says, "Himeno-senpai, you have senority, so keep watch for more devils." He is the kohai, the younger one, yet giving his senior the orders. So seeing her breakdown when Aki is stabbed really revealed to me how much she relies and depends on him. In this episode she also says, "I can take it easy because Aki's working hard...Life is sweeter with a bit of dependence." However, her reaction to him being stabbed seems a bit more extreme than "a bit of dependence."

2022-11-16 23:02:22 +0000 UTCwhile watching this episode i was wondering whether the relationship between Aki and Himeno was actually trying to be represented in romantic light. From what's hinted in the beginning of the show and throughout, Aki has eyes for Makima but we don't really know why other than her "saving" him being the reason...? It's interesting how we don't get an explanation on that whatsoever but instead a really endearing and anchored relationship between Himeno and him with layers of trust and clearly they value each other a bunch. I didn't really see it as a romantic thing but who knows. If it isn't supposed to be one, I think I would appreciate it even more in that they're giving time to flesh out a male/female relationship with this level of depth without it having to be an attraction thing. Chainsaw man keeps coming out with such interesting dynamics I rarely see done in anime before. Also I hope we get to see more of that found family trope between Aki/Power/Denji there's just so much they could do with that. Aki's explanation for not killing him this episode was definitely more logical and cold as of right now but...... as time goes on there's no way they don't start forming a loving familial bond.

Each devil hunter needs to either have a “strong conviction” as Aki put it or just be out of their mind in order to survive in this field of work. Denji and Power are clearly not normal in terms of personality, and they're thriving in this situation because of it. Himeno and Aki have strong convictions. Himeno’s strong conviction is Aki himself, so when he is in immediate danger she breaks apart. This is the rookie's, Arai (panic attack guy) and Kobeni’s (knife girl) first real mission. Not the best start… At least Himeno described Kobeni as having serious potential when it comes to devil hunting in terms of physical ability. Arai’s saving grace on the other hand was supposed to be his attitude and drive.
