Cause that’s automatically where my mind goes when considering humanity’s like #1 all time greatest fear.

2022-11-02 02:01:05 +0000 UTCYeah it would take an incredible amount of time to draw the Chainsaw effects by hand for a whole 12 episode season... I do wish that Japanese corporate structures were just totally different and allowed studios to sit down for years at a time working on one show all in 2D just to create something truly special and above the rest, almost no studios in Japan have the ability to do that because of production committees who only care about $$$. The massive exception to this, up until there fucking studio and a massive portion of their staff were burnt to a crisp intentionally, was Kyoto Animation. They would reguarly give there artists as much time as they needed to create the most beautiful anime ever created to this date, projects like Violet Evergarden, Hibike! Euphonium, Hyouka, and A Silent Voice could only ever be drawn by a studio like KyoAni due to there incredible treatment of staff, refusal to overwork or rush anyone employeed by them, and the fact they would almost entirely hire in-house. They would keep animators and directors who were trained and worked there way up in the industry through KyoAni for there whole career (until they died...) If studios like Mappa, A-1 Pictures, even Bones (except for MP100 where they clearly give that team all the time they need) and Madhouse could follow the same buisness model that Kyoto Animation followed, anime would enter a whole new realm of quality and genius that in my opinion would elevate it all the way up to the most significant form of fictional media in the entire world, passing Hollywood and Live Action in general.

I will say... a lot of patrons on here with other shows have been highly critical of things that are highly prevelent in EVA, things like Grooming/pedophilia, fanservice of underage characters, hyper focus on psychosexual analysis, among many other things.

2022-11-01 23:21:45 +0000 UTCFor sure, i do too and tbh I think the overwhelming majority of people prefer traditional handdrawn sakuga. Bittersweetly though, these mangas/mangakas keep getting more and more complex and detailed and make it practically impossible to recreate all of the source material 100% in 2D. Especially for something like chainsaws where the toothed belts have to be constantly in motion during every frame (or at least appear as they are), stuff like that and most of Berserk and Vagabond just physically can’t be adapted in 2D animation cause it’s unrealistic to be able to fit that much detail into singular frames that’re only up for a 12th of a second each lol. So if it’s that kinda highly complex art that requires at least some level of CG integration, I’m just always happy with those 2 studios’ results. Especially Mappa’s tho here recently, they’ve been rapidly improving and growing over the past 5-6 years.

2022-11-01 22:33:51 +0000 UTCI know this show is so insanely hyped and literally everyone is watching and talking about it... but I have to say being a non-manga reader this story is something special so far. I can already tell this show is going to be like no other, and the type of stuff the main narrative is focusing on at this point is truly fascinating. The flashback scene with Power and her cat felt like I was playing back a real memory in my head, the OST combined with the art style just send me to another state of mind while watching it. Everything about this show works so far, the characters, the classic modern day Japan world, the action scenes, the music, the animation, we are witnessing anime history unfold infront of us.

It’s cats and boobs” Probably gonna be something similar to what I get on my gravestone tbh lmao Also, sorry for all the comments lol but I’m gonna step in for Ryan since he’s not here and offer the tiny little bit of Japanese knowledge that I’m able to lol. Around @8:10 when Makima says “a promising one and an interesting one,” the word she used for “one” (which was hiki/pikki) is from my understanding commonly only used when referring to animals or pets. So, even more fitting that nearly all her speech patterns are geared towards being a master to her pet underlings lol

It’s a bit hit or miss at times, like the tentacles in the Mugen train arc looked pretty silly lol. The animation analysis video that I linked in the last episode’s comments breaks down the difference in quality between this series and some of ufotable’s previous work

I’ve seen a few movies come close but man, these animators are putting their souls into this show

It’s so easy to understand so there’s no wasted time in explaining things, anything a human is capable of fearing, whether that be an abstract concept or something tangible has the possibility of being a devil. More feared = Stronger. Some many cool possibilities to explore from a writing standpoint. Can’t wait to see your reaction to some of the stronger devils that pop up later in the story.
