Vinland Saga 1x24 Reaction Extended (YT link below)

Comments

Will you be reacting to Vinland Saga S2? Sorry if that has been asked elsewhere before, I don't see it.

TheManatee

You’ve watched the prologue! XD

Anna Lena Ciplajevs

HxH and Steins Gate one of these days :)

Alex G

Literally became a Patreon just to see this reaction lol Found you on YouTube today. Need a daily dose of great Vinland Saga, HxH and Steins Gate reactions

David Salazar

I was thinking about that latter point a lot while making thumbnails. I haven't counted but I'm gonna guess the majority of them feature Askeladd. For me I think Thorfinn did grow to see him as a father, as confusing as that must have been

Viking pillager

if i remember correctly when i first watched this i didn't expect Askeladd to die \this season\ least of all by Canute omg i just watched the S2 trailer and Canute looks SO FUCKING HANDSOME WHOA had to stop and stare for a sec hehehe I've read \some\ of the manga but its been awhile so the only thing i do remember is farming so i guess Vinland FarmVille Saga is next? XD

“He’s not ready for Iroh’s tea shop yet. He still has a legacy to complete,” “Freedom isn’t home. It’s not safety. It’s not necessarily comfort. Maybe it’s something more like true expression,” “This is not my kind of shoulder-pat,” “This is the gamble of all gambles right now,” (The gasp of all gasps when the King gets decapitated) “Uh, are you okay, Canute? That was your fa…ther?” “He’s just out-purposing all of you right now,” “It’s a death, but in the most glorious way possible. It ends up being a triumph,” “Just another episode of Vinland Saga where nothing happens,” “That is a look of sheer horror,” “Oh, he gave him a scar. He’ll look a little more battle legit now,” “How’s Thorkell doin’? How you doin’, Thorkell?” “If this is a prologue, this is the best prologue of all time,”

Geneva The Weeba

me last episode was basically just WAITING for this one. Goodwin: What if Askeladd became Artorius? What if- Me: That’s what he does!! Goodwin: -he actually became a hero for his people? Me: That’s what he does!! Goodwin: In a righteous and honorable way. Me: oh. That is maybe NOT what he does.

Geneva The Weeba

People keep saying the next arc is even better and boy I can't even picture that. I can't wait to see Thorfinn's development. And hopefully season 2 contains some Thorkell.

Musicisum

the person you saw at the end wasn't thorfinn. just teasing a new character you'll meet

Not exactly the same studio switch cause the entire original team that made season 1 at WIT, were actually hired on to continue season 2 at MAPPA. So unlike with AoT, Vinland isn’t actually changing hands to any different animators. They’re simply changing studio names, and based on the financial struggles that WIT has been in for the past few years, switching over to Mappa can really only make the next season better since Mappa has more resources readily available to produce with

Jake White

I hadn't been watching your reactions to Vinland Saga, as my intention was to binge them in December to refresh myself before S2. And yet, I couldn't stop myself from tuning in for the king's death. Seeing your shocked reaction to that scene was totally worth it. I remember feeling the same way during my first watch thru. Such an epic moment!

Merfhew

There’s a trailer for S2 out now. We’re getting the same studio switch that AoT got from WIT to MAPPA.

I’ve enjoyed this rewatch soo much that I’m liking the show a lot more than my first watch back in 2019 Can’t wait for season 2

17:00 uses the same framing as when Thorfinn is held by Thors when he died. I’ll let you decide what to think about the author’s choice of framing there, as it’s a pretty common debate among anime fans whether or not Thorfinn himself saw Askeladd as a father figure deep down. Also, I think that it’s one of the most touching things that the only time Thorfinn throws away his blade is when he’s reaching out for Askeladd. All this time and the memory of Thors couldn’t do it. With all of season 1 in retrospect, it becomes clear that Askeladd wanted Thors to become their leader, and that when Thors responded negatively was when he replied that he was joking. Askeladd, in my opinion, then grew fond of Thorfinn. Perhaps he was hoping some of Thors would shine through, which is why he was so disappointed in episode 22 that he gave Thorfinn and Canute a lecture about killing his father. Askeladd’s arc is just so dense and well-written that it’s a shock that most of this show is actually Thorfinn’s story (which I assure is just as mind blowing as Askeladd’s). I can’t help but gush about it.

There was an official guidebook translation, and the author described Askeladd as "an amazing tsundere dad". I can't wait for season 2 and I can't wait to see how Thorfinn processes the relationship he had with Askeladd :(

MartianElegy

Man, when you started this series, I already couldn't wait for this episode to come

Jon

The trailer was pretty damn good too. I second this

Nick

It's nice to consider that Askeladd had the perfect chance of showing Thorfinn the real actual killer of his father who is Floki (the guy who ordered to kill Thors) but he never did and has always put himself as Thorfinn's target his entire life and when he was dying instead of telling Throfinn who the real killer of his father was and making him pursue his revenge story he instead tell him to move on and seek Thors' path of becoming a real warrior and basically burying Thorfinn's reason of revenge by his death.

Jonas

I would enjoy a Q&A. I enjoyed watching Vinland again with you :) Second season should be coming in january I believe. If you wish you can watch the trailer of the second season. It doesn´t show any straightforward spoilers, at best the theme of season 2. or you can go completely blind. When you say "if season 2 its half as good as this". I believe season 2 its better than season 1, but its more niche. If I had to guess you will love it

Sh3nx

The arc that season 2 is going to cover is imo the best of the series and probably could have been the end. The character work throughout the arc is just incredible and it genuinely impacted me as a person. I’m so excited to see how anime only’s feel about it since it’s such a MASSIVE change of pace from season one. Great stuff as always Alex, can’t wait for Haikyuu.

Rice

Also, on a side note, I’d sell my left kidney to the person who tells me what that magestic, low, sad opera OST is, the one that happened when Askeladd killed the villagers that keeps playing in the show.

Chris Sharpe

ESPECIALLY that dagger scene at the end... my god

Nick

I’m curious, what would Askeladd’s real life, modern day occupation be? Stockbroker?

Chris Sharpe

Feels good to be caught up to Goodwin. I got hit with the wall of new shows and new work and got caught behind. I haven’t been here for a few months and it’s been rough since then (not necessarily because of lack of Goodwin). This is nice.

Chris Sharpe

Long reign the true king Lucius Artorius Castus

Jake White

Askeladd is my favorite character of all time in anime. Just one of the most well written characters I've seen in general

Amit

I haven't been commenting because I've officially started with college classes at this point and my life is now a lot more like rush hour traffic but I have to be here for the finale of Vinland season 1 This finale, let me tell you- my jaw was dropped for a few minutes after it ended as I was just left thinking about it when I first watched it. It really stuck in my mind the whole night because of how profound and well executed it is

Nick

Excited for January

Nick

S2 comes out soon
