Huh, not sure why but it seems like my comments are disappearing? Has this been happening to anyone else?

Not really sure what's going on in the comments, but I'm really happy to see how much you're enjoying the show! Gilbert and Violet's relationship is definitely complicated and not necessarily well defined up to this point, but then we're also getting most of that only now. It really is a strength of the show I think that because of how much there is for you to try to infer about their relationship through episodes 1 to 7 that there's just no way for someone invested in the show to not be dying for this episode. Of course, even with everything in episode 8 there is still more to this picture and I can't wait for you to see it! As a note, before the first battle Violet fights for Gilbert he does ask her to stay and wait for his return, but once she pushed forward there wasn't much he could have done. With that, an interesting detail from this scene is how Gilbert's order is very clearly shown before Violet acts. The very first order Violet receives from the Major wasn't even meant for her, just further emphasizing Gilbert's helplessness over her situation and the Military's decision to use her. Also shows just how strong Violet's predilection toward not just following orders but seeking them out was.

I'm so ready to cry again for the next two episodes

Correct. He was forced to bring her to the frontlines, but he never intended her to fight. He clearly told her to stay behind at camp but she disobeyed his orders and followed him to the battlefield just as she could not sit idly at home and searched everywhere for him.

I mean gilbert told violet to not participate in that first battle and wait for him to come back, but she came anyway so at that point it was just too late to turn back since she inserted herself. I wouldn't really say he went against his beliefs there lol love the flashbacks this episode though, just seeing the pain and guilt in gilbert's eyes whenever he would look at violet always hurt me to watch.

Amber

Not me, I absolutely enjoy violet's character.
